NSS Camp on ‘Swachh Bharat and Jal Shakti’ concludes at Dev Samaj College for Women

 Chandigarh, April 9, 2022: A 7 Days NSS Camp based on the theme ‘Swachh Bharat and Jal Shakti’ was held at Dev Samaj College for Women(DSCW), Sector 45 Chandigarh. A Valedictory Session was held to mark the conclusion of the camp.
On this occasion, Prof. Ashwani Koul, Programme Coordinator, NSS, was the Chief Guest and Dr Agnese Dhillon, Principal, Dev Samaj College of Education(DSCE) was the Guest of Honour. The camp was inaugurated by Principal, DSCW Dr Meena Chopra. It started with an orientation session in which the Programme Officers, Dr Ila Rathor and Dr Lovleen Kaur Sohi apprised the students of the details of the camp.

The volunteers were divided into 5 groups and each group led the activities on a particular day for which different themes such as - Women Empowerment, Health and Fitness, Life Management Skills, Social Service and Skill Development were chosen. The Swachata Survey and Jal Shakti Survey were also conducted in the adopted village, Burail as part of the camp.
During the camp, Self Defence Training sessions were conducted by the SWAYAM team of the Women & Child Support Cell of the Chandigarh Police. The students were also made aware of the value of nutrition and fitness by experts.
The College joined hands with GMCH 32 and an ‘Eye Donation Awareness’ session which was conducted by Prof Dr. S K Arya Head Cornea, Eye Bank and Refectory Surgery. Dept. of Ophthalmology GMCH, Chandigarh.  During the session, Dr. S K Arya underlined the importance of eye donation and explained how it could help in restoring the vision of children and adults.
He also further encouraged the volunteers to pledge to facilitate eye donation. Sessions on Gender Sensitization, Communication Skills, Personality Development, Entrepreneurial skills and Stress management were held during the weeklong camp.
The volunteers also presented a cultural programme based on the themes of ‘Beti Bachao Beti Padhao’ and ‘Ek Bharat Shreshtha Bharat’.
At the Valedictory Session, Prof Ashwani Koul applauded the efforts of the NSS units and the spirit in which the camp was conducted. While Dr Agnese Dhillon appreciated the various activities conducted by college NSS units which she felt were in line with the vision of the Dev Samaj Institutions.
Concluding the session, Prof Ashwani Koul and Dr. Agnese Dhillon gave away the letters of appreciation to those who contributed to the success of the camp. Dr Lovleen Kaur Sohi presented a vote of thanks to the dignitaries for gracing the occasion with their presence, and all those who had contributed to the event.
