Northern Railway defeats Central Railway to win 46th All India Railway Women Hockey Championship at RCF Kapurthala
The 46th All India Railway Women Hockey Championship, organized at Rail Coach Factory (RCF), Kapurthala, concluded successfully today. In an exciting final match, Northern Railway defeated Central Railway 2–0 to clinch the championship title. In a hard fought final, Northern Railway team took lead in 14th minute when Kanika Siwach scored a field goal. later in 49th Minute, Manju scored through penalty corner to give a decisive 2-0 lead. Divya Thepe of Central Railway was declared player of the Final.
Kapurthala, March 25, 2026: The 46th All India Railway Women Hockey Championship, organized at Rail Coach Factory (RCF), Kapurthala, concluded successfully today. In an exciting final match, Northern Railway defeated Central Railway 2–0 to clinch the championship title. Earlier, in the third-place match, host RCF Kapurthala defeated South Eastern Railway, Kolkata 1–0 to secure third position in the championship. Annu scored the decisive goal for RCF through a penalty stroke in the 54th minute of the match.
A total of nine teams from Zonal Railways and Production Units participated in this prestigious championship. To make the competition more competitive, the teams were divided into two pools. Pool–A comprised Central Railway Mumbai, South Eastern Railway Kolkata, Western Railway Mumbai, North Eastern Railway Gorakhpur, and East Central Railway Hajipur, while
Pool–B included host Rail Coach Factory Kapurthala, North Central Railway Prayagraj, Northern Railway New Delhi, and West Central Railway Jabalpur.
From Pool–A, Central Railway Mumbai and South Eastern Railway Kolkata, and from Pool–B, Northern Railway New Delhi and RCF Kapurthala advanced to the semifinals, where Central Railway and Northern Railway emerged victorious to enter the final.
Following the final match, a prize distribution ceremony was held in which renowned hockey player Rajbir Kaur, popularly known as the “Golden Girl,” presented awards to the winning and runner-up teams as well as the players. On this occasion, senior officials of RCF K. S. Asla, President of the RCF Sports Association, Sukhraj Singh , General Secretary, Balwinder Singh Shammi , Sukhjit Kaur, Bikram Jit Singh Kahlon , Jagmohan Singh, Sanjay Bir , members of the Sports Association, and a large number of sports enthusiasts and spectators were present. Lal Thant Luangi of RCF was declared Player of the Championship and was presented a special trophy sponsored by Olympian Balwinder Singh Shammi , besides a cash award of Rs 11,000.
The participation of several Olympians and international-level women hockey players significantly elevated the standard of the championship, making it highly competitive and providing spectators with thrilling and high-quality hockey matches.
