Avika Gor returns to television as the Queen of the Apsaras in Star Plus’ upcoming supernatural saga Apsara, bringing power, grace and emotional depth to its grand premiere episode. Inspired by Samudra Manthan, the Mukta Dhond production follows Sunehri, played by Samiksha Jaiswal, as she battles evil forces to protect the Amrit while safeguarding those she loves. Also featuring Paras Kalnawat, Anushka Merchande and Adaa Khan, the show promises a blend of fantasy, action and emotional relationships, taking viewers into a world where duty and love put courage to the test.
Talking about what drew her to the show, Avika says, “For me, the medium has never been the deciding factor; the character and the story have always mattered more. When I came across this character, I was impressed by the many layers she offered. She is powerful and commanding, yet has her own vulnerabilities. Playing her gave me the opportunity to explore everything from romance and action to emotional moments and dance.”
Bringing the fantasy world to life also meant embracing elaborate costumes, jewellery and styling. Avika describes the transformation as an experience in itself, with every detail helping her step into the character. She also credits producer Mukta Dhond and Vikram Ghai for creating a visually distinctive world and shares that working with Manish and Adaa Khan made the experience even more enjoyable.
However, the most meaningful part of this project has been returning to television. Reflecting on her journey, Avika says, “Television is where so much of my growth as an actor happened. Coming back reminded me that no matter how much you grow, evolve or explore different mediums, you should never forget your roots.”
