NMDC Observes World Environment Day by nurturing a culture of sustainability
NMDC, India’s largest iron ore producer celebrated World Environment Day 2025 at its head office and projects across the country with renewed resolve to advance environmental stewardship.

Bengaluru, June 5, 2025: NMDC, India’s largest iron ore producer celebrated World Environment Day 2025 at its head office and projects across the country with renewed resolve to advance environmental stewardship.
The Responsible Miner organized a special event on the WED 2025 theme - Ending Plastic Pollution Globally. The event commenced with the ceremonial lamp lighting followed by an environmental pledge led by Amitava Mukherjee, CMD, along with functional directors and employees. During the event various videos on ways to curb plastic pollution were screened to raise awareness among employees and to foster behavioural change followed. Later a documentary on NMDC’s ongoing environmental conservation initiative was also shown.
Addressing the employees on this occasion, Mukherjee, said, “Environmental preservation is now a core consideration. And this demands a fundamental shift in the mindset- one where ecological intelligence is embedded into every operation. Our hold on sustainability ranking also supports us in getting environmental clearances and global business opportunities. We as Responsible Miners recognize our industry's reliance on natural resources and its impact, therefore should also prioritize the preservation of flora and fauna through environment conscious actions. Let us pledge: refuse what we don’t need, reduce what we can’t refuse, reuse, recycle, and remove waste responsibly.”
Vinay Kumar, Director (Technical) also engaged employees in a reflective dialogue and highlighting the importance of adopting a holistic approach to environmental sustainability. He further said, “The 3Rs- Reduce, Reuse, and Recycle lay the groundwork, but a more comprehensive strategy is needed. To truly mitigate our ecological footprint, we need to 'Re-think' our actions, processes, and decisions, ensuring they align with sustainable practices and minimize harm to the environment.”
Joydeep Dasgupta, Director (Production), underscored NMDC's unwavering commitment to environmental stewardship and operational excellence and quoted, “The 15 MTPA Slurry Pipeline is a significant milestone in our sustainability journey, showcasing our ability to reduce environmental footprint while maximizing efficiency. We are proud to be at the forefront of cleaner material transport solutions in the industry.”
As a part of the celebration, the company organized plantation drives and various competitions for employees and students across its major projects and distributed eco-friendly jute bags and stationery to promote sustainable alternatives to plastic. Winners of the in-house Environment Day Contests were also felicitated by the senior management.
