Nitin Babu on playing Chirag in Sony SAB’s Pushpa Impossible
“Stepping into an already established character post-leap required a mix of preparation, observation, and a lot of guidance”: Nitin Babu on playing Chirag in Sony SAB’s Pushpa Impossible
Sony SAB’s beloved show Pushpa Impossible strikes a chord with audiences as it enters an intense and compelling new phase. With the story taking a significant 7-year leap, viewers welcomed a deeply layered version of Chirag, now portrayed by Nitin Babu. Chirag’s character, formerly known for his warmth and charm, now steps into a space of higher stakes, navigating the complex world of politics, relationships, and personal evolution.
In a special interaction, Nitin Babu opens up about stepping into an already established character and shaping Chirag’s new identity post-leap.
1. What was your first reaction when you were offered the role of Chirag?
When I was offered the role of Chirag, my first reaction was a mix of excitement and curiosity. Excitement - because the character immediately felt vibrant and full of potential, and curiosity - because I could sense there was a lot to explore beneath his surface. I remember thinking, ‘This is going to be a fun challenge,’ and I genuinely felt grateful for the opportunity to bring him to life.
2. What aspects of Chirag’s personality did you find most exciting or challenging to portray?
Chirag is a dedicated political party member who carries a strong sense of power and responsibility through his role. Though he’s loving and genuinely helpful, his tone can sometimes come across as rude or blunt to the outside world. But beneath that rough edge is a deeply kind-hearted, loyal, lover-boy personality. He cares for everyone around him and stands firmly for what is right - never supporting anything he believes is wrong.
3. How did you prepare for stepping into an already established character post-leap? Any specific workshops, briefings, or character studies?
Stepping into an already established character post-leap required a mix of preparation, observation, and a lot of guidance. I began by revisiting earlier episodes to understand Chirag’s roots - his relationships, his journey, and the audience’s expectations. A big part of my preparation was working on his body language and tone. Chirag is loving and kind-hearted, but because of his growing power and intensity, he can sound a bit blunt. And honestly, a huge credit goes to our director. His guidance, clarity of vision, and sheer dedication made the transition so much smoother for me and his belief in me gave me the confidence to shape Chirag in this new phase.
4. Is there any part of Chirag’s journey that personally resonates with you?
Absolutely. What resonates with me most is Chirag’s strong moral compass. He may appear blunt or intense on the outside, but deep down he’s driven by loyalty, love, and a genuine desire to do what’s right. That inner strength and sincerity are qualities I personally relate to. His journey of balancing responsibility with emotion felt very real to me. Like Chirag, I believe in standing up for the right thing, even when it’s not the easiest path.
5. Pushpa’s relationship with her children is the heart of the show. How would you describe the new dynamic between Pushpa and Chirag after the leap?
Now, while that emotional connection remains just as strong, there’s a new layer of respect and understanding. Chirag has grown up, taken on responsibility, and Pushpa recognizes that. They may argue, he may sound rough at times, but at the core he is still her loving, protective son. Their relationship now reflects a mother and son who are both strong individuals but even stronger together.
6. How has the experience been working with Karuna Pandey and the rest of the cast?
It has been genuinely wonderful. Karuna ma’am is incredibly grounded and warm, and she brings so much honesty to every scene that it automatically elevates your own performance. Working with her feels effortless - you always feel supported in the moment. The entire cast has been extremely welcoming and collaborative. There’s a positive energy on set, a sense of family, and that makes coming to work every day something to look forward to.
7. Without giving away spoilers, what can viewers expect in the upcoming episodes?
Viewers can expect a lot of emotional highs, new conflicts, and surprising turns in relationships. You’ll see Chirag face challenges that test both his power and his heart. And overall, the post-leap story carries the same soul of the show - family bonds, strong values, and a lot of heartfelt moments - just with even bigger stakes.
