An eight-member fact finding committee constituted by National Green Tribunal (NGT) on Monday visited Giaspura locality of the city and started its probe to find out the reasons behind the gas leak that led to death of 11 persons on April 30, 2023.

Ludhiana, May 8, 2023: An eight-member fact finding committee constituted by National Green Tribunal (NGT) on Monday visited Giaspura locality of the city and started its probe to find out the reasons behind the gas leak that led to death of 11 persons on April 30, 2023.

The committee is headed by PPCB Chairman Dr Adrash Pal Vig and comprises of Gurnam Singh, Regional Director (North), Central Pollution Control Board Chandigarh, Sheelendra Pratap Singh from CSIR-Indian Institute of Toxicology Research, Lucknow, Dr Lakshmi from PGIMER Chandigarh, Uttam Chand from National Disaster Response Force (NDRF), District Magistrate Surabhi Malik, MC Commissioner Dr Shena Aggarwal, Er GS Majithia, Member Secretary PPCB.

The committee today took stock of all spots near the mishap place including manholes, a milk booth and others. The committee also recorded the statements of survivors, rescuers, and eyewitnesses who narrated their stories to the members. 

The members of the committee also took the recordings of various viral videos regarding the incident. 

Panel head Dr Adarsh Pal Vig also appealed to the people to submit any kind of evidence concerning gas leak mishap with the committee for assistance in the probe particular to this incident.

Dr Vig said that the panel would prepare a detailed and factual report so that such tragic mishap do not occur in the future.

This was a preliminary meeting and all technical agencies have been asked to submit their reports as per their mandate for further consideration/analysis by the fact finding committee.
