New generation laser workshop for prostate and stones at Aykai

Ludhiana, March 20, 2022: A workshop on “Advances in Endourology  Live operative Thulium Fiber Laser for prostate & stone” to showcase technology advancements for treatment of prostate and stones surgeries was organized by Urology & Transplant Department of Aykai Hospital, Ludhiana along with the renowned Urologists of India. 

The Organizing Chairman Dr Baldev Singh Aulakh Chief Urologist & Transplant Surgeon, Chairman Aykai Hospital, Ludhiana , Ex President Urology Society of India , Northern Region introduced the theme of Live Workshop and said, for minimally invasive treatment of kidney stones & Prostate  ,lasers are the best modality . In the recent years lot of research had happened in improving the efficiency of treating kidney stones& Prostate using lasers.One such advance method is the “Thulium Fiber Laser(TFL)”which is more efficacious and safe to treat the prostate condition.  due to its high Laser power and accuracy. It will make the patient more comfortable , painfree , catheter free and such patients can be discharged at the earliest.Workshop was inaugurated by Dr.Shrawan Kumar Singh MBBS,MS,MCh, FAMS Professor & Head of Urology Department PGIMER Chd. Dr.Shrawan congratulated organizing team & applauded Aykai Hospital for this Hi-tech addition in the state of the art facilities for the betterment in patient care in treating prostate & stones. Such workshops will also help training budding young urologists.Special Invitee Dr Ravindra Sabnis President, Urology Society of India ,Chairman & Head of the Department MPUH Nadiad gave lecture on the “Principle of TFL:how it is different from other Laser”.Dr Sabnis stressed upon that, as laser is a blood less procedure it is more suitable to the prostate & stone patients who are suffering from cardiac disease and are on blood thinners. This method uses a high power laser to perform endourology procedure ,here small internal endoscopes are used to remove stone & prostate faster and more precisely . The laser pulse can reach farther distance and deliver enhanced energy which may decrease blood loss and operating time.This advance method can treat prostate of any size and the procedure is painless.

Four Live surgeries were performed & shown ,one 9years old child had stone and other patient had Kidney Stone having symptoms of flank pain, burning micturition , urgency, haematuria(blood in urine), cloudy or smelly urine, Nausea, vomiting, Fever and chills both underwent RIRS(Retrograde Intra Renal Surgery).Two patients having urine blockage were operated for enlarged prostate by Dr B S Aulakh , Dr Sudheer Devana, Dr Ashish Saini & Dr Rahul Gupta.Dr.S.K.Devana ,Associate Professor Dept Of Urology , PGIMER Chd. gave information about “TFL for stone management : is It a game changer?” He told that  TFL is very efficient in treating any type of kidney stones. This laser is very fast in breaking stones and hence even large kidney stones can be cleared in a short operating time & hence less complications. And Dr.Ashish Saini,Director& Founder Excel Advance Urology Centre. discussed on “TFL for managing BPH:point to ponder” .He added that with thulium laser ,bleeding during the operation is negligible & the hospital stay in much less than the conventional surgery of prostate . The workshop was virtually broadcast across the country and abroad so that patient care can be refined .During this workshop eminent Urologists  were the Chairpersons for various sessions.The event ended with a vote of thanks by  Dr.Nitin Aggarwal , Council Member of Urology Society of India, Scientific Chairman who thanked all the distinguished guests, Chairpersons, speakers,attendees , faculty and staffs of Aykai Hospital for being the part of this  event & making it successful .This workshop will be beneficial to the patients coming from Punjab, Haryana, Himachal Pradesh, Uttarpradesh , Jammu&Kashmir,  and Rajasthan.
