NDBB, Jalandhar women trainees from Sambha District visits KVK, Kapurthala

Ludhiana, July 12, 2023: KVK Kapurthala conducted exposure visit of trainees of Northern Regional Demonstration and Training Centre of NDBB from Jammu on 12/07/2023. Dr Srikant Sahoo, Principal from National Dairy Development Board, Jalandhar led the group of 48 women trainees participating in dairy farming. All the trainees belong to Sambha district of Jammu and Kashmir.

In the beginning, Dr. Harinder Singh (Associate Director), KVK Kapurthala, welcome the trainees and shed light on different activities and mandates of KVK. He also motivated the trainees to adopt subsidiary occupations like dairy farming, beekeeping, kitchen gardening etc. He said KVK, act as knowledge and resource centre in the district thereby they can answer almost every query of the rural communities.

Dr Amit Salaria, Asstt. Prof. (Agron.) delivered lecture on organic cultivation of field crops and medicinal plants. Dr Bindu, Assoc. Prof. (Agri. Eng.) highlighted the importance of processing and packaging of kitchen garden produce.

Avneet Kaur, Asstt. Prof. (H. Sci.), delivered lecture on diet during anemia for adolescent girls and women.

Dr Amandeep Kaur, Asstt. Prof. (Veg. Sci.) motivated the trainees to adopt fruit and vegetable nutrition garden model to meet daily nutritional needs. She also demonstrated different methods to grow vegetables like roof top garden and grow bags.

Dr Suman Kumari, Asstt. Prof. ( Pl. Prot.), discussed the importance of beekeeping and mushroom cultivation as subsidiary occupation. She also demonstrated PAU fruit fly traps for fruits and vegetables.

On this occasion, KVK shows positive gesture by distributing pulses and oilseeds kits and seed of pumpkin variety Punjab Nawab among trainees as a motivation for trainees to produce pulses and vegetables for domestic use.

The session ends with vote of thanks followed by visit to technology park, kitchen garden, bee keeping unit and rain water harvesting unit.
