NDA government ruined constitutional right of privacy: Rana Sodhi

Chandigarh: Castigating the BJP led NDA Government over the Pegasus Spyware Scandal, Punjab Sports and Youth Affairs Minister Rana Gurmit Singh Sodhi, on Wednesday, said that this is a blatant attack on the constitutional right of privacy, which was upheld by the Supreme Court at various stages.

In a press statement issued here, Rana Sodhi stated that the NDA Government has totally ruined the Constitutional, Judicial, Social and Ethical values, and now new revelations found that high-tech tools were used to monitor phones and emails of prominent persons including opposition leaders, journalists and others. Urging the Supreme Court to take Suo-Moto notice, he said that this is a sheer violation of the right of Privacy.

''No agency of another country can tap phones without the permission of the senior functionaries of your government and people of India know that who ordered foreign spyware this time to tap the phones, spying on emails and related social media platforms of the prominent personalities", quipped Rana Sodhi, adding that the NDA government has nothing to showcase on economic front and now attempting hidden maneuvers to contain the voice of dissidents.

Terming the incident totally unacceptable, the Cabinet Minister questioned ''Is this the way to restore people's faith in democracy, when chaos prevails everywhere?"

It is pertinent to mention that Punjab Chief Minister Captain Amarinder Singh has also condemned the hacking of private phones of top political leaders, journalists, businessmen, scientists, constitutional authorities and others as a shameful attack not just on individual privacy but also on national security by the BJP-led government at the Centre.
