National symposium with theme “60th Anniversary: Standing on The Shoulders of Giants” 

One day national symposium was organised by the Centre for Medical Physics, Panjab University, to celebrate International Day of Medical Physics (IDMP) with the theme “60th Anniversary: Standing on The Shoulders of Giants”. IDMP is celebrated on the birth date of Marie Sklodowska-Curie, known for her pioneering research on radioactivity.

Chandigarh, November 5, 2023: One day national symposium was organised by the Centre for Medical Physics, Panjab University, to celebrate International Day of Medical Physics (IDMP) with the theme “60th Anniversary: Standing on The Shoulders of Giants”. IDMP is celebrated on the birth date of Marie Sklodowska-Curie, known for her pioneering research on radioactivity. 

Dr. Kamlesh Passi from Mohan Dai Oswal Hospital, Ludhiana delivered the Keynote address and talked about “Exploring the Evaluation of Medical Physics: A Journey Through Innovation and Progress”. 

Dr. Vivek Kumar, Chairperson gave brief introduction of the Centre for Medical Physics and talked about the progress in cancer cure facilities in the region. 

Dr. Ajay Srivastava, Chairman, Association of Medical Physicists of India (Northern Chapter) talked on “Radiation Doses in Multislice CT: Comparison of measurement techniques”. 

Dr. Rajesh Kumar from Department of Physics, PU talked about “Optimizing Shape and Size of Metal Nanoparticles for Cancer Treatment Applications”. 

Dr. R.K. Bisht from AIIMS, Delhi talked anout “Evolution in Radio-Diagnostic Department”.  Prof. Vipin Bhatnagar from Department of Physics, PU talked about “Revisiting Building Blocks: A Particle Physicist Way”. 

Dr. Vivek Kumar concluded the symposium and thanked the delegates along with invited speakers. 

The symposium was attended by 8 speakers in addition to more than 60 delegates. 

The Centre for Medical Physics was created in 2007, as joint venture of Panjab University and PGIMER, Chandigarh. 
Till date, the centre has produced M.Sc. Medical Physics course students successfully with almost 100% placements. 
Three Ph.D. pass outs (Dr. Gaganpreet Singh, Dr. Rose Kamal, Dr. Deepak Thaper) from the Centre for Medical Physics have got more than 40 lakhs salary packages for their professional jobs.
