National Symposium "Shakti & Srishti" Celebrates Women's Role in Nation Building

Chandigarh, July 20, 2026: Panjab University, Chandigarh, under the initiative of Viksit Bharat@2047, in collaboration with the Department of Social Welfare, Women and Child Development, Chandigarh Administration, organised a National Symposium titled "Shakti & Srishti: Recognising the Role of Women as the Architect of a Sustainable World."
The symposium aimed to acknowledge and celebrate the invaluable contribution of women in shaping an inclusive, equitable and sustainable society was organised at Tagore Theatre and PU Convention Centre, Sector 25, Chandigarh.
In her keynote address, noted spiritual leader and social reformer Sadhvi Ritambhara shared her perspectives on the role of women in character-building, society-building, highlighting the unparallel grace of nature bestowed on women by the God.
The symposium also featured an inspiring address by Pramukh Sanchalika of Rashtra Sevika Samiti, Shanta Akka, in which she highlighted the inherent strengths of women. She drew various inferences from the sacrifices made by women and their role in ensuring the sustainability of the society.
PU Vice Chancellor, Prof. Renu Vig, in her address underlined the pivotal role played by women in diverse fields.
Further, a special felicitation ceremony honoured distinguished women achievers and dignitaries for their outstanding contributions in diverse fields.
Earlier, the national symposium commenced at the New Convention Centre, Panjab University, with the inaugural session comprising Vande Mataram, Ganesh Vandana and a cultural presentation on Women Empowerment. A special Light and Sound Show on Ahilyabai Holkar highlighted the life and legacy of one of India's greatest women rulers and visionary administrators. Various exhibition stalls showcased initiatives related to women empowerment and social development.
The symposium brought together academicians, policymakers, students, social workers and representatives from civil society to deliberate on women's leadership and their pivotal role in achieving the vision of Viksit Bharat@2047. Through meaningful discussions, cultural presentations and recognition of exemplary women, the event inspired collective action towards building a sustainable and empowered India.
