A National Seminar of Music being held at HMV, Jalandhar on Saturday.

Jalandhar, February 7, 2015: The Music Department of Hans Raj Mahila Maha Vidyalaya, Jalandhar organised a UGC sponsored One Day National Seminar on “Tradition, Creativity and Innovations In Indian Classical Music” (Vocal, Instrumental & Dance) in collaboration with Akashvani Jalandhar and UMAK Centre for Culture, New Delhi. 

The chief guest of the seminar was Ex-Principal REC, Jalandhar and Director of Sant Baba Bhag Singh Institute Dr. H.S. Sagar.  College Principal Dr. Rekha Kalia Bhardwaj welcomed the guests and said that music is everywhere.  Music is basically a technique of balance.  Balance is inseparable part of our life so is the music.  Music teaches us how to live a balanced life.

The introductory remarks of the seminar were given by Prof. Dr. Anupam Mahajan, a renowned Sitarist from Delhi University.  She said that Gurus are the actual carriers of tradition.  Role of audience and media is also very important.

Dean, faculty of music, Guru Nanak Dev University, Dr. Gurpreet Kaur talked about the relevance of seminar and said that innovation is the basic necessity in the field of arts.  In the field of music, tradition, creativity and innovation go side by side.  The keynote speaker of the seminar was world renowned Sitarist Padam Bhushan Pt. Debu Chaudhuri.  He said that in order to learn something, one should never think that he has learnt everything in life. 

Director Programming Akashvani Jalandhar Sh. Tehseem Abbasi said that we should never forget our culture & music in today’s scientific world.  Chief Guest Dr. H.S. Sagar congratulated music department for organising the seminar.

In the plenary session of the seminar, the resource persons were Prof. Dr. Nivedita Singh from Patiala University, Principal Pt. Dr. Harvinder Sharma (Sitarist), Principal Govt. College Chandigarh and Kattak Guru of Jaipur Gharana Padam Bhushan Pt. Rajendra Gangani.  They gave performance of Vocal, Instrumental & Dance and mesmerised the audience.  Two technical sessions were organised in which 60 research papers were presented more than 170 delegates participated in the seminar.

In the valedictory session of the seminar, the resource persons were Pt. Dr. Prateek Chaudhuri, World renowned Tabla Vadak Pt. Vijay Shankar Mishra and Retd. Prof. Dr. C.L. Verma from Himachal University were present.  The delegates shared their experiences of the seminar & certificates were distributed.

Seminar convener & Head of Music Inst.Department Dr. Jyoti Mittu thanked the guests. 

On this occasion, Head of Music Vocal Department Dr. Prem Sagar, Dr. Santosh Khanna from Music Instl. Department, Dr. Pooja Manhas from Dance Department Dean Academics Meenakshi Syal  & other teachers were also present.

In this seminar, Director Harivallabh Sangeet Sammelan S.S. Ajimal, Sia Bihari Saran, Pt. Manu Seen, Irwin Khanna, Varinder, Pt. Kale Ram from UMAK Centre for Culture Jalnadhar Chapter Satnam Manek, Deepak Bali were also present.  Stage was conducted by Dr. Anjana Bhatia and Dr. Nidhi Kochhar.
