National Prematurity Day 2025 Celebrated at DMC&H
Department of Paediatrics, DMC&H marked National Prematurity Day 2025 with an awareness event organized in the Pediatric OPD.
Ludhiana, November 22, 2025: Department of Paediatrics, DMC&H marked National Prematurity Day 2025 with an awareness event organized in the Pediatric OPD. The programme was held under the leadership of Dr Puneet A Pooni, Professor and Head, Department of Pediatrics, DMC&H, and was coordinated by Dr Kamal Arora, Professor, Department of Pediatrics, DMC&H. The event aimed to educate the general public about the essential care required for premature babies and to highlight the importance of early intervention, Kangaroo mother care, and advanced medical support.
The occasion was graced with the presence of esteemed dignitaries including Bipin Gupta, Secretary, DMC&H Managing Society; Mukesh Verma, Treasurer, DMC&H Managing Society; Dr Sandeep Kaushal, Dean Academics; Dr Sandeep Sharma, Medical Superintendent; Dr Ashima Taneja, Additional Medical Superintendent, and Dr Naveen Bajaj, President, National Neonatology Forum (NNF), Punjab. Dr Kamal Arora extended a warm welcome to the dignitaries and provided an overview of the objective and significance of the event.
A special highlight of the programme was a role play presented by the BSc Nursing 6th semester students. Through a well-enacted demonstration, the students depicted the journey of a premature baby and the comprehensive care required within a hospital setting. They showcased how premature infants are managed using advanced facilities, including NICU and specialized monitoring equipment that play a vital role in saving fragile newborn lives.
The event also included a poster competition on the theme of prematurity, featuring creative and informative entries by nursing students of BSc 6th Semester. The competition was judged by Dr Suman Puri, Professor and Unit Head, Department of Obstetrics & Gynaecology; Dr Gurvinder Kaur, Professor and Head, Department of Ophthalmology; and Dr Nidhi Sagar, Vice Principal, College of Nursing, DMC&H. The winners were announced as Smridhi Singh (1st Prize), Tanveen (2nd Prize) and Komalpreet and Navneet (3rd Prize).
Speaking on the occasion, Bipin Gupta, Secretary, DMC&H Managing Society, congratulated the Department of Pediatrics for organizing the meaningful event. He emphasized that DMC&H, remains committed to serving humanity with compassion and excellence. He also highlighted the institution’s advanced infrastructure and the expertise of its dedicated team of doctors that contribute to its strong reputation in patient care.
Dr G. S. Wander, Principal, DMC&H appreciated the efforts of the Department of Pediatrics. He emphasized that premature birth continues to be a significant public health concern and lauded the department for spreading awareness through such meaningful initiatives.
The event concluded with a formal vote of thanks delivered by Dr Puneet A Pooni, who appreciated the participation of faculty, students and dignitaries in making the programme a success.
