National News- CBI files chargesheet against ten accused in bribery case

New Delhi/Jalandhar, October 7, 2013: The Central Bureau of Investigation has filed a chargesheet against ten accused persons i.e. then Superintendent Engineer, Civil Line Zone Delhi; two then Assistant Engineers, MCD, Rohini Zone, Delhi; two Junior Engineers of MCD / DDA: three Beldars of MCD, Rohini Zone / Civil Line Zone, Delhi; one private person of DLF Phase–I, Gurgaon(Haryana) and another private person of Delhi before the Special Judge, CBI, Patiala House Courts, New Delhi in a bribery case of Rs.30 lakh.

 A case was registered on 07.08.2013 U/s. 7,8,9,12 & 13(2) r/w 13(1)(d) of PC Act, 1988. It was alleged that accused officials of MCD were demanding & accepting the bribe of Rs.30 lakh as a part payment out of Rs. 50 lakh from the private persons, for which the deal was allegedly struck between the parties for grant of regularization to the Banquet Hall at Wazirpur Industrial Area, New Delhi. The private persons including one owner of Gurgaon-based private firm were also arrested while offering the alleged bribe to public servants.

During the course of investigation, a sum of Rs.74 lakh (approximately) was recovered from the residence of a JE of MCD and movable & immovable assets to the tune of Rs.One crore (approximately)  including cash of Rs.37 lakh were recovered from the residence of a Beldar of MCD.

The public is reminded that the above findings are based on the investigation done by CBI and evidence collected by it.  Under the Indian Law, the accused are presumed to be innocent till their guilt is finally established after a fair trial
