National Minority Status for Muslims Must End, India Needs Equality, Not Appeasement: Sukhminderpal Singh Grewal Bhukhri Kalan

Chandigarh, October 5, 2025: National BJP leader Sukhminderpal Singh Grewal Bhukhri Kalan said today that he has formally called for an immediate review and withdrawal of the so-called ‘constitutional minority’ status granted to Muslims at the national level, calling it a decades-old fraud on the principles of equality and justice.
He said that it is absurd and shameful that a community of over 200 million people with massive political dominance in several states, still enjoys special privileges under the tag of a ‘minority.’ Grewal thundered that this system of appeasement must be dismantled without any delay.
Grewal told that Muslims in India have crossed the threshold of being a minority long ago. “They are a powerful political bloc, an influential economic group, and a decisive vote-bank in multiple states. Yet, they continue to enjoy constitutional crutches meant for weaker sections. This is not equality, this is injustice to India’s real minorities,” he said.
He said that minority recognition must be state-wise, not national, because in states like Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, West Bengal, Kerala, Assam and Jammu & Kashmir, Muslims are numerically and politically dominant. “How can a majority in these states continue to grab national-level minority benefits? It’s an open insult to the Sikh, Jain, Buddhist, Christian, and Parsi communities who genuinely deserve protection,” he said with anger.
Grewal quoting official figures said that as per the Economic Advisory Council, the Muslim population in India has shot up from 9.84% in 1950 to over 14% in 2015, while the Hindu population has dropped from 84.68% to 78.06%. By 2023, Muslims have crossed 200 million, while Sikhs stand at 1.85%, Christians at 2.36%, Buddhists at 0.81%, Jains at 0.36% and Parsis at 0.004%. Still calling Muslims a minority is nothing but political hypocrisy and constitutional misuse.
He said, the Central Government must take bold action now revoke the national minority status for Muslims and channel all legal protections toward the real minorities whose heritage, institutions, and rights are truly at risk. No democracy can tolerate permanent privileges for one dominant community under the false pretext of minority sympathy.
Grewal also warned that unchecked illegal immigration, religious conversions and demographic manipulation have altered the population balance dangerously in several border states. Even though the Muslim fertility rate has dropped by 1% in the last 15 years, illegal inflow and conversion networks continue to fuel this growth. This is not population growth this is population invasion, he remarked sharply.
He said that if the Centre and the Election Commission do not act, the demographic imbalance will soon become a national security crisis. Enough of this appeasement politics. India needs truth, not tokenism. Justice, not fear. The days of minority blackmailing are over, he warned in a fiery tone.
He said that this is the right time for constitutional correction. The Muslim community should no longer be treated as a national minority and the rights of real minorities Sikhs, Jains, Buddhists, Christians and Parsis must be secured and strengthened.
