Chandigarh, October 29, 2025: The national launch of the Model Youth Gram Sabha initiative, launched by the Ministry of Panchayati Raj, Government of India, with the aim of inculcating the spirit of Gram Swaraj, people's power, and democratic participation in the minds of the new generation, will be held on October 30, at the Dr. Ambedkar International Centre in New Delhi.

Dr. Virendra Singh Chauhan, Director of the Haryana Institute of Rural Development (Nilokheri) and State Training Coordinator for this program, informed that the launch ceremony will be held from 11:00 am to 1:00 pm. Senior officials from Panchayati Raj departments across the country, education experts, representatives of the Navodaya Vidyalaya Organization, and officials from various states will be present on the occasion.

Dr. Chauhan said that this innovative program, developed by the Ministry of Panchayati Raj in collaboration with the Department of School Education and Literacy and the Ministry of Tribal Affairs, aims to familiarize school students with the actual functioning of the Gram Sabha, understanding public administration, and the fundamentals of civic responsibility. He said that teachers from all Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalayas in Haryana received special training last month on the process of conducting and organizing the Model Youth Gram Sabha. Now, students in these schools will practically understand the proceedings of the Gram Sabha and form their own Model Youth Gram Sabha.

He said that the Model Youth Gram Sabha will strengthen the spirit of participatory democracy among youth. This program is a strong step towards realizing Prime Minister Narendra Modi's vision of ‘Young India, Capable India’, and ‘Sabka Saath, Sabka Vikas’.

Dr. Chauhan said that the Haryana Institute of Rural Development will play an active role in the state-level implementation of this initiative. In the first phase, it will be implemented in Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalayas and Eklavya Model Residential Schools across the country, where special sessions will be organized to provide students with first-hand experience of Gram Sabha proceedings. There are plans to expand this initiative to other schools in the coming phases.
