National Conference titled Sustainability: Fashion~Design~Apparel

The department of UIFT &VD successfully organised a National Conference today, titled Sustainability: Fashion~Design~Apparel, sponsored by the Indian Council of Social Science Research, Panjab University. The Chairperson of the department Dr. Anu Gupta welcomed the keynote speaker Mr. Darpan Kapoor, Vice Chairman of Kapsons Group.

Chandigarh, October 19, 2022: The department of UIFT &VD successfully organised a National Conference today, titled Sustainability: Fashion~Design~Apparel, sponsored by the Indian Council of Social Science Research, Panjab University. 

The Chairperson of the department Dr. Anu Gupta welcomed the keynote speaker Darpan Kapoor, Vice Chairman of Kapsons Group. Dr. Prabhdip Brar, as the conference co-ordinator along with her team successfully co-ordinated the schedule of the day which accommodated enthralling presentations by resource persons, faculty and research scholars from UIFT&VD, SD college Sector 32, Department of fashion Designing, Jalandhar, Department of textileand Apparel Designing, Hisar, MCM, Sector 36 Chd, Department of Home Science, Phagwara.Dr. Rita Kant welcomed Prof. Sanjay Kaushik, Director ICSSR, who stressed on the need of percolating these urgent ideas into the minds of the consumers. 

The resource persons Prof. Rakhi Wahi Pratap, Head of the department of Textile Design, NIFT Panchkula and Mr. Rajesh Mehra, Director of Active Clothing Pvt. Ltd., provided innovative insights on the dynamics of Sustainability, which is swaying between ultra-fashion and other philosophies and economics of fashion. Prof. Ramanjit Johal graced the occasion and judged the presentations of the conference. The presenters too made an optimal use of the platform to share their ideas ranging from waste management, innovative recycling, sustainable alternatives, role of media in promoting sustainable fashion, upcycling processes, alternatives to dyeing techniques, green practices, visual merchandising to nano-textiles and so on. The valedictory session concluded the conference with a report on the proceedings of the day and with awards for best presentations in two sessions, which was bagged by Bharti Sharma, research scholar UIFT for the presentation on cultural sustainability. 

Prof. Rajat Sandhir who also presided over, congratulated the other two winners, Rati Arora from MCM DAV sector 36, and Dr. Bhavneet Bhatti of School of communication Studies, Panjab University, for presentations on the management of sacred textiles like Rumala Sahib and the growing relationship between media and fashion.
