New Delhi/Jalandhar, August 14, 2013: Haryana Chief Minister Bhupinder Singh Hooda has said the nation will progress fast with women empowerment through education.
Speaking at the function organised in Bhagat Phool Singh Mahila Vishwavidyalaya campus at village Khanpur Kalan in Sonipat district, organised in connection with 71st Balidan Diwas of Bhagat Phool Singh and 99th Birth Anniversary of Subhashini Devi, Hooda commended the efforts being made by the University for fulfilling the dreams of Bhagat Phool Singh and Subhashini Devi.
Hooda Said that under the influence of ‘Arya Samaj’, Bhagat Phool Singh left his job of Patwari and devoted himself to the education of girls and established a Gurukul with only three girls at Khanpur. After his death, his daughter Subhashini Devi carried on with his mission and established a number of educational institutions. For her services to the society and women upliftment, she was honored with Padamshree in 1976.
Hooda said that after coming into power, his government made Kanya Gurukul of Khanpur a Mahila Vishwavidyalaya, where about 7000 girls are studying today from KG to P.hd. level courses. He appreciated the hard work done by the Vice Chancellor and the teachers in the progress of the University.
Hooda said that with the establishment of Mahila Vishwavidyalaya, the girls of rural areas have got opportunity for higher education. A women medical college has also been opened, which is the first government medical college after independence. The BPSM University has also signed a number of MoUs with a number of foreign universities. “I feel very happy, when I see the progress made by the university in such a short period”, he said. He also urged upon the university to help the girl students in preparing for the competitions like IAS and IPS.
Haryana Education Minister, Geeta Bhukkal also commended the progress made by the BPS University. She said that under the leadership of the Chief Minister Hooda, the state govt. is making all efforts for empowerment of women through education.
Earlier, welcoming the Chief Minister Hooda, the Vice Chancellor of the University, Pankaj Mittal said that it is due to the personal interest taken by the Chief Minister and the financial support given by his government that the BPSM University has come to this level that it has international recognition today. The university has also started a programme of societal development and adopted neighboring villages, contributing in their progress through awareness programmes, health camps and installing solar street lights. Recently a workshop was held with the Subbranches of Gohana Block on ‘Food Security’.
Gohana MLA Jagbir Malik appreciated the achievements of the BPSM University and asked it to prepare a documentary on the life of Bhagat Phool Singh also.
Earlier, Chief Minister Hooda paid floral tributes at the statues of Bhagat Phool Singh and Subhashini Devi. Later he inaugurated Subhashini Devi Administrative Block and laid the foundation stone of Ch. Ranbir Singh Library. He also released the documentary about the progress of the university from Gurukul to BPSMV and also the report prepared by the University on Food Security.
Registrar Asha Kadyan thanked the dignitaries for gracing the occasion. On this occasion, CPS Jaiveer Valmiki, MLA Srikrishan Hooda, Political Advisor to CM Virender, Krishna Gahlot, Ex. Minister Prasanni Devi, Pro-VC Balbir Kaur, Director of BPS Women Medical College Dr. R.C. Siwatch, R.S. Jaglan, DC Dr. Chandershekhar and SP Arun Nehra were also present.
