Ludhiana, May 15, 2025: The district administration is set to launch Nasha Mukti Yatra, a massive grassroots awareness campaign to combat drug abuse from May 16.

In Ludhiana, 275 yatras will take place across urban and rural areas of Ludhiana until May 25; with several events will be held daily in each of the district’s 14 assembly constituencies. 

Deputy Commissioner Himanshu Jain stated that this Nasha Mukti Yatra initiative will transform the war against drugs into a people-led movement, encouraging the society to foster vigilance and take collective action to eradicate the drug menace. He stressed the critical need for public participation in achieving a drug-free society and urged every citizen to join the mission, emphasizing that a drug-free Ludhiana is achievable only through unified efforts. 

The yatras will be meticulously organized under the supervision of designated officers. Paramdeep Singh from Municipal Corporation Ludhiana will oversee events in urban areas under the Municipal Corporation, while ADC (Rural Development) Amarjit Bains will manage activities in rural blocks. ADC (Urban Development) Rupinder Pal Singh will be responsible for events in Municipal Councils. 

Jain stated that each Nasha Mukti Yatra will bring together Village Defence Committees (VDCs), Ward Defence Committees (WDCs), sarpanches, villagers, and others to promote awareness and strengthen the fight to drug-related activities. Further, he added that the de-addicted individuals will share motivational lectures to inspire others, and an oath against drug abuse will be administered, fostering a sense of commitment and vigilance among participants.

On the opening day, May 16, 40 Nasha Mukti Yatras will take place across Ludhiana’s wards and villages, showcasing a robust start to the campaign. In Atam Nagar, MLA Kulwant Singh Sidhu will lead events in Ward Nos. 40, 41, and 42. In Dakha, Senior AAP leader KNS Kang will preside over yatras in Mini Chapar, Chapar, and Dhurkot. MLA Jiwan Singh Sangowal will oversee events in Alamgir, Allowal, and Amaltash in Gill constituency. In Jagraon, MLA Saravjit Kaur Manuke will spearhead yatras in Abupura, Agwarh Gujaran, and Agwarh Khwajabaju. Cabinet Minister Tarunpreet Singh Sond will lead events in Kamma, Isru, and Rajewal in Khanna. 

Cabinet Minister Hardeep Singh Mundian will preside over yatras in Dashmesh Kalan, Mundian Khurd, and Mundian Tibba in Sahnewal. In Ludhiana Central, MLA Ashok Parashar Pappi will lead events in Ward Nos. 10, 30, and 74, while in Ludhiana East, MLA Daljit Singh Bhola Grewal will oversee Ward Nos. 11, 12, and 13. In Ludhiana South, MLA Rajinder Pal Kaur Chhina will lead yatras in Ward Nos. 27, 31, and 32. MP Sanjeev Arora will preside over an event in Ward No. 54 in Ludhiana West. In Raikot, MLA Hakam Singh Thekedar will lead events in Jand, Nangal Kalan, and Nangal Khurd, and in Samrala, MLA Jagtar Singh will be the chief guest for yatras in Ghulal, Khatra, and Bijlipure villages. These events will galvanize communities to take a stand against drug abuse.
