MP Randhawa strongly condemns lathicharge and use of water cannons on farmers

Chandigarh, May 15, 2026: Sukhjinder Singh Randhawa, former Deputy Chief Minister of Punjab and Member of Parliament from Gurdaspur, has strongly condemned the use of lathicharge and water cannons by the police on farmers peacefully marching in Chandigarh over their legitimate demands. He said that using force against the voice of the “annadata” (food providers) goes against democratic values and reflects the insensitivity of governments. He added that the use of lathicharge and water cannons on farmers cannot be justified under any circumstances.
Randhawa said that farmers have been struggling peacefully for a long time over their demands. Raising demands such as increasing the credit limit, providing legal guarantee for MSP on all crops, and speaking against anti-farmer policies is a democratic right of farmers. However, instead of addressing their issues, they are being stopped on the streets and police force is being used against them.
He stated that the Central Government is consistently avoiding granting a legal guarantee for MSP, and has completely failed to protect the safety and rights of farmers. If the country’s farmers are being forced to come onto the streets for their demands, it is the biggest proof of the failure of government policies. He warned that the anti-farmer attitude and repressive policies will be remembered by the people of the country for a long time.
