MP Deepender Hooda demands permanent government job to one member of family of deceased players and financial assistance of at least ₹1 crore
Says: Will raise the issue during the winter session of Parliament
Rohtak, November 30, 2025: Rohtak MP Deepender Hooda has said he would bring an adjournment motion in the Lok Sabha to raise the death of sportspersons Hardik and Aman in Haryana. He said the negligence of the Haryana government was responsible for their deaths and the families of the two deceased should get a government job and financial assistance.
Deepender, who attended several events in Rohtak today, announced on Sunday that he would raise the issue of the deaths of talented athletes Hardik and Aman, who died while practicing at the stadium. He said he would raise the issue in the Lok Sabha during the winter session of Parliament, which begins tomorrow, by introducing an Adjournment motion.
He said that the BJP government in Haryana is responsible for the deaths of both players. “The BJP government should apologize to the players for failing to repair existing stadiums, let alone build new ones, in 11 years. Furthermore, the Rs 18.5 lakh I provided for stadium repairs were not spent, keeping them entangled in files. Forget about investing the money from my MP fund, no one even went to see that the basketball poles were rusted,” he added.
“If the Haryana government failed to repair the stadium despite providing MP funds, this is also a case of breach of privilege. The issue of injustice in Lakhanmajra will resonate in the country's Parliament. Hardik was a national player, therefore, this is a national issue, and the Indian government will have to take cognizance of it,” he added.
He demanded that the families of both players, Hardik and Aman, receive justice, a permanent government job for one member, and financial assistance of at least ₹1 crore. "Criminal negligence charges should be filed against the officials responsible for not using the ₹18.5 lakhs I provided from my MPLADS fund for stadium maintenance, and strict action should be taken. To save the sports infrastructure that has been devastated in 11 years, the government should admit its mistake and release the budget for sports stadiums,” he said.
Deepender said an indoor stadium should be built in Lakhanmajra in the name of national player Hardik to inspire young athletes. He stated that until justice is served to both families, action is taken against the officials responsible for not using my MPLADS fund, and the budget is released to repair the sports infrastructure built during my tenure, we will not let the government forget this injustice."
The Rohtak MP said it is unfortunate that the union government has allocated only Rs 80 crore, the lowest budget in the country, to Haryana, a state known for its sports powerhouse, from its sports budget of Rs 3500 crore. “Gujarat received a budget of Rs 680 crore. This is an insult to the athletes and medals of our state. It is unfair to give the state, which wins more than 50% of the medals in international competitions, the lowest budget in the country,” he pointed out.
“The state government's arrogant attitude has extinguished the hopes of two families. Despite repeated questions being raised about the dilapidated sports system, those in responsible positions within the government have remained unmoved. Insensitive statements have emerged from those claiming that the Congress government built so many sports stadiums,” he added.
Deepender Hooda demanded that the BJP government release data on how many of the 481 sports stadiums built during the Congress-led Hooda government received maintenance funding. He said that the tragic accident that occurred with the two athletes was due to the government's negligence and indifference. “The government's response after the accident has been rejected by the players' families, and we also reject it. The mere attempt to provide a relief amount of ₹5 lakh reflects the government's intentions,” he said.
Out of 481 sports stadiums, 120 were built in the Rohtak Lok Sabha constituency. Two SAI centers were established. He himself built the Lakhanmajra sports stadium, where many talented players emerged from it and reached the national team. The BJP government did not allocate a single Rupee for the maintenance budget of this stadium in 11 years.
“When the players from Lakhanmajra approached me in 2023, I released ₹12.30 lakh from my MPLAD fund. After that, I provided another ₹6.20 lakh from the MPLAD fund. I want to ask who was responsible for the funds not being spent for three years,” he questioned.
Deepender also said that many projects under his MPLAD fund were being stalled due to political rivalry. He wrote several letters to the Government of India regarding this matter, but the state government remained unaffected. Isn't this an insult to the people of Rohtak? This attitude of the BJP government is a betrayal of the people of Rohtak.
Expressing happiness over the Commonwealth Games being held in India again, he said that it would have been a matter of great pride if Haryana, the sports capital of India, had been included in the event. “The Commonwealth Games 2030 was an opportunity to invest in sports infrastructure in Haryana, which would have had far-reaching positive consequences for the country,” he said.
“The Commonwealth Games would have been held either in the national capital or in Haryana, which is considered a hub of athletes and has won more than 50% of the medals in international competitions. This would have led to the development of a modern sports infrastructure here. Had Haryana invested in sports infrastructure for the Commonwealth Games preparations, our athletes would have brought the country even more medals,” he added.
He demanded that the Union government not ignore Haryana in the opportunity to host the Commonwealth Games internationally. He said that the BJP government had grossly neglected the interests of Haryana's sports and athletes. The BJP government abolished the Congress government's "Bring a Medal, Get Post" policy, which was meant to secure the future of athletes.
The Hooda government of the Congress enacted the SPAT policy to promote sportspersons from Class 1 at the school level, but the BJP government ultimately abolished it. Under the SPAT policy, SC girls were given an incentive of ₹40,000 upon reaching the district/state level. This was also abolished by the BJP government. The Congress government appointed 750 athletes to various positions. The BJP government has yet to appoint anyone, denied them promotions, and even denied them cash awards after 2021. Rural-level competitions were also abolished. No budget was allocated for sports infrastructure. Over the past 11 years, the BJP government has ruined stadiums and sports nurseries across the state.
