New Delhi, January 29, 2026: Rohtak MP Deepender Hooda demanded an increase in the budget for education, health, agriculture, sports, and defense in the upcoming budget. He said the government is not even following its own recommendations in important sectors.
“The National Health Policy recommends that 2.5% of the GDP be allocated to the health sector, but the government is only allocating 1.4%. Similarly, the National Education Policy states that at least 6% of the GDP should be allocated to education, but the government is only providing 4.5%,” he said.
“According to the National Science Technology and Innovation Policy, 2% of the GDP should be spent on R&D, but the government is only allocating 0.6%. The Standing Committee on Defence has repeatedly stated that at least 3% of the GDP should be allocated to defense. However, the government is only allocating 1.9% to defense, which is the lowest budget since 1962. Our defense budget has always been above 2% since 1962,” he added.
Deepender said that in October 2025, trade deficit was recorded at $41.7 billion, the highest in 78 years. “The Current Account Deficit as a percentage of GDP is 1.3% today. The central and state governments have never accumulated so much debt; today, the debt is 82% of the GDP. Instead of 'Startup India', it has become 'Shutdown India'. 'Make in India' is becoming 'Made for India,” he pointed out.
Speaking to media persons at the Parliament House complex today, Deepender Hooda said due to a weak foreign policy, the country's economy is under attack from all sides. “Given the situation, it is crucial that the budget focuses on the common man and provides them with relief. The value of the Rupee against the dollar is at its weakest point in the country's history. Unemployment is at its highest level in the country's history. Therefore, it is extremely important that the upcoming budget is prepared keeping the common man in mind and provides them with relief,” he said.
He said that farmers and laborers across the country are suffering today, so the country needs a good budget. He said the gap between the rich and the poor has widened, 16 lakh crore rupees of loans have been waived in the last 10 years, and the maximum monopoly and duopoly in the country's economy has been given to the private sector.
Deepender Hooda expressed hope that Haryana's rights will not be ignored in the budget as usual and that the central government will pay attention to them. He said that he will raise issues related to every section of society during the budget session of Parliament.
The Rohtak MP demanded that in the budget to be presented on February 1st, adequate budget should be allocated for all the pending projects that he had approved, such as the international airport in Meham, the rail coach factory in Gohana, the medical college at AIIMS Badhsa along with 11 national institutions, and the Indian National Defence University in Gurugram, so that work on these projects can proceed.
“During the Congress government's tenure, 88 km of metro lines were extended in Haryana, but for the last 12 years, not a single inch of metro expansion has taken place; that metro project should also be extended,” he said.
Deepender Hooda demanded that Haryana should be selected for co-hosting the Commonwealth Games 2030. Haryana should be made the host or co-host state for the Commonwealth Games 2030 and the Olympics 2036, which have been announced by the Government of India for Gujarat. “Making Haryana at least a co-host state for the 2030 Commonwealth Games and the 2036 Olympics would ensure that a portion of the multi-billion dollar budget is spent on Haryana's sports infrastructure, leading to improvements in its sports facilities,” he said.
