Ludhiana, May 10, 2025: Rajya Sabha MP Sanjeev Arora has successfully facilitated in a long-pending issue regarding the regularization of EWS flats in Blocks X, Y, and Z of the Maharishi Balmik Nagar scheme (256 acres), under the Ludhiana Improvement Trust (LIT). The decision follows representations made by local residents during Arora’s poll campaign, prompting him to take up the matter with the LIT Chairman and the concerned minister.
Briefing the media persons at a press conference here this evening, MP Arora added in the Maharishi Balmik Nagar scheme, around 2016 EWS flats were constructed in 1980. Of these, nearly 1000 were allotted, but only a small fraction of the allottees deposited the full sale amount. To address this, the government has issued a one-time settlement (OTS) policy allowing these flat holders to deposit pending installments with simple interest to get their properties regularized.
Further, he said many flats are occupied without formal allotment. As per the Government Policy/Rules of 2021, residents who have been living in these flats for over 12 years can now apply for regularization by submitting any one of the following documents: Voter ID, Aadhaar card, driving licence, Bank Passbook, Vehicle Registration Certificate, VAT/GST/Sale Tax Registration Certificate, electricity meter connection, water supply connection, or any other valid document issued by the government authorities.
MP Arora said the allotment of such flats will be regularized at concessional rates based on the income of the residents. For public assistance, a help desk has been set up at the LIT office, operational from 9 AM to 5 PM on all working days until June 15, 2025. The OTS scheme itself will remain valid till July 31, 2025.
He emphasized that this move aims to bring long-awaited relief to residents who have been facing difficulties in getting their properties registered and regularized. “The issue was brought to my attention by residents themselves. I am pleased that after taking it up with the concerned authorities, a resolution has been achieved,” he said.
