Mount Carmel School Hosts the 25th Edition of ‘Swar Udgam’ at Tagore Theatre

Chandigarh, July 29, 2026: Mount Carmel School, Sector Chandigarh, under the visionary leadership of its Founders and Directors, Dr. Earnest Charles J. Samuel and Dr. Annie Charles Samuel alongwith the Principal Dr. Parveena John Singh, successfully organised the 25th Edition of ‘Swar Udgam’, an Inter-School Hindustani Classical Vocal and Geet/Ghazal Competition, at Tagore Theatre,  Chandigarh.
The prestigious annual event witnessed enthusiastic participation from schools across the Tricity and adjoining regions. 
The competition was conducted in two categories: Hindustani Classical Vocal for students of Classes VI to VIII and Geet/Ghazal for students of Classes IX and X.
Principal, Dr. Parveena John Singh reiterated the school's commitment to holistic education, stating that Mount Carmel School continues to provide opportunities that foster creativity, cultural awareness and artistic excellence alongside academic achievement.
The programme concluded with a heartfelt Vote of Thanks followed by the National Anthem.
The programme commenced with a warm welcome, followed by captivating performances by the participating students. Young vocalists enthralled the audience with soulful renditions based on classical ragas. The Geet and Ghazal performances further reflected the participants' musical maturity, versatility and deep appreciation for India's rich cultural heritage.
As per the school's longstanding tradition, the host school's presentation was a non-competitive performance, showcasing the musical talent of its own students.
The competition was judged by an eminent panel comprising Varinder Kumar Chopra, a distinguished music educator with over three decades of experience in Indian classical music; Mukesh Singh, an accomplished filmmaker, director, composer, and media professional associated with leading entertainment organisations including Star India, Viacom18, and 9X Entertainment; and Sahib Satbir, a renowned singer, songwriter, and composer celebrated for his contributions to both the Punjabi and Hindi music industries.
The judges appreciated the exceptional standard of performances and encouraged the young artists to continue pursuing music with dedication and passion.

Congratulating the participants, the Founders and Directors highlighted that Swar Udgam has, over the past twenty-five years, evolved into a prestigious platform that nurtures young musical talent and promotes India's classical and literary musical traditions. They emphasised that such events provide invaluable stage exposure, enhance confidence and inspire students to strive for excellence.
