Chandigarh, February 21, 2016: Acceding to the demand made by the Punjab Chief Minister Mr.Parkash Singh Badal, the Union Civil Aviation Minister Mr.Ashok Gajjapathi Raju today agreed to start additional flights from Delhi to Chandigarh and Amritsar.
During a telephonic conversation with Mr.Raju, the Chief Minister urged him to immediately start flights from national capital to Amritsar and Chandigarh to provide connectivity to the people of the state who were completely cut off from other parts of the country especially Delhi due to wide spread violence and disturbances in Haryana following the issue of Jat reservation. Mr. Badal apprised him that huge section of the society especially the students had been adversely affected, who have to appear in several entrance tests for either seeking Jobs or admissions in various educational institutions across the country adding he said most of such examination centres were only located in Delhi. He further brought into the notice of Union Civil Aviation Minister that some aviation companies were exploiting the situation by overcharging the passengers, which was not only deplorable but also unethical and sought his personal intervention to rein these operators effectively besides starting more flights to and fro from Delhi to Amritsar and Chandigarh to cope this crisis thereby saving people from lot of hardship and inconvenience caused to them owing to Jat agitation in Haryana.
The Union Civil Aviation Minister apprised Mr. Badal that Spice Jet has planned one more additional flight for today to Chandigarh DEL-IXC-DEL with B737 with time schedule of 2035-2130 and2200-2255. Likewise, he said that other additional flights were being organized in view of Jat agitation, which include Air India’s Delhi (1730) Chandigarh (1910) Amritsar (2035) Delhi, SpiceJet’s Delhi (17.55) Jaipur (1915) Delhi, Delhi (1740) Amritsar (1910) Delhi and Delhi (2035) Chandigarh (2200) Delhi, Jet Airways Delhi (1325) Amritsar (1525) Delhi, Indigo Airline’s Delhi (2125) Chandigarh Delhi and Delhi (2140) Jaipur Delhi. Likewise, he informed that Jet Airways was operating one Additional flight today to Amritsar with 68 seater ATR72. He also said that Air India, Spice, Go Air, Indigo and Vistara also have been told to mount additional flights to Chandigarh, Jammu, Amritsar and Jaipur.
