Chandigarh, May 23, 2015: More than 85 percent students appeared for various tests at the Panjab University (PU) Common Entrance Test (CET) (Under Graduate) at different colleges and PU Campus here today.

PU Controller of Examinations Prof Parvinder Singh informed that 12,216 students appeared for the Physics, 12,231 appeared for Chemistry, 5517 appeared for Biology, 7244 appeared for Mathematics, 81 appeared for Biotechnology and 590 students appeared for Computer Science tests, which was 87.41 percent, 87.51 percent, 89 percent, 86.43 percent, 87.63 percent and 70.91 percent respectively.

Prof Parvinder Singh informed that elaborate arrangements were made for accompanying persons stay at various auditoriums of the University. PU examination staff was put up on MAY I HELP YOU duty at various sensitive points for all type of assistance.

PU Security Staff was also trained on how to guide the candidates, which resulted that no traffic chaos was witnessed in the University despite large influx of the candidates.

It may be recalled that 14964 students had applied for 408 open seats for different under graduate courses of PU under CET (UG), which is 11 percent more than the previous year. Last year 13,226 students had applied for CET (UG). The students appeared for Physics, Chemistry, Biology, Mathematics, Biotechnology and Computer Science tests in 43 examination centres at PU Campus and other colleges of Chandigarh.

PU Spokesman Mr Vineet Punia said that the 11 percent increase in the applications for the entrance test indicates the growing national stature of the University. The University has emerged as a most sought after education destination for the talented students from different parts of the country.

As per the tentative list provided in the prospectus, the students were competing for admissions to 46 open seats and 6 NRI seats at B.Pharm at the University Institute of Pharmaceutical Sciences (UIPS), 30 open seats and 4 NRI Seats each at B.Sc. (Hons.School) Anthropology, B.Sc. (Hons. School) Biochemistry and B.Sc. (Hons. School) Geology. There are 15 open seats and 2 NRI seats for B.Sc. (Hons. School) Biotechnology, 20 open seats and 3 NRI seats at B.Sc. (Hons. School) Botany, 58 open seats and 8 NRI seats at B.Sc. (Hons. School) Chemistry, 25 open seats and 4 NRI seats at B.Sc. (Hons.School) Mathematics, 15 open seats and 2 NRI seats at B.Sc. (Hons. School) Mathematics & Computing, 29 open seats and 4 NRI seats at B.Sc. (Hons. School) Microbiology, 40 open seats and 6 NRI seats at B.Sc. (Hons. School) Physics, 20 open seats and 3 NRI seats at B.Sc. (Hons. School) Physics & Electronics 25 seats each at B.Sc. (Hons.
