With Modi posters, BJP turns Delhi saffron

New Delhi, May 18 (IANS) Following its impressive victory in the Lok Sabha election, the BJP has painted the national capital saffron with posters, hoardings and banners depicting party leader Narendra Modi, set to become India's 14th prime minister.

The posters at intersections, arterial roads, neighbourhoods and commercial spaces have been put up either by the party, winning candidates or small-time leaders who want to score brownie points with the party's senior leadership.

The one thing common to all of these though is the saffron background and a photo of Modi who led the party to a historic win Friday with the party capturing a clear majority.

While a huge billboard near Vikas Marg in central Delhi has a smiling picture of Modi flashing the V sign and a message "Naya Yug, Naya Bharat" (new era, new India) written next to him, another near ITO crossing, which is the hub of media and several government offices, shows Modi with party president Rajnath Singh.

Most hoardings have come up in and around central and east Delhi, especially on roads leading to the BJP headquarters at 11, Ashok Road as well as its Delhi office -- 14, Pant Marg -- both in central Delhi.

Apart from the customary promotion by the seven winning candidates of the party, numerous local leaders too are using the opportunity to get in the good books of senior leaders and flaunt their loyalty.

Using photo editing tools, these leaders are shown standing next to or even bowing before Modi, congratulating him.
