Ludhiana: In a significant decision to scale up the vaccination and ensure shield to the people amid the resurgence of Covid-19 infections, Deputy Commissioner Varinder Kumar Sharma on Wednesday directed the health departments to set up mobile teams for administrating Covid jabs to everyone above than 45 at their doorsteps with special focus on covering labour in the factories, villagers and people of residential societies from April 1.

Presiding over a virtual meeting of the District Task Force, Deputy Commissioner Varinder Kumar Sharma asked the department to prepare a schedule of the mobile teams targeting the migrant workforce in the factories and other industrial units, residential societies and clubs which will not only ramp the vaccination drive but would protect a sizeable population of the district from the pathogen.

He said that the supply and stock of the COVID-19 vaccine are available in sufficient quantity and asked the officials to ensure proper training of staff to be deputed for the mobile teams.

He said that today as many as 6600 persons received Covid-19 vaccine shots in the district, the highest in a single day, show the people are coming forward and this momentum needs to be further augmented to break the transmission of the virus.

Deputy Commissioner further told the health officials to encourage the people for the vaccination through intensive awareness drive especially in the rural areas either through social media, TV/radio jingles, posters/banners and other ways so that people can shun hesitancy towards vaccination. 
 
Prominent among present on the occasion included Additional Deputy Commissioner Sandeep Kumar, Civil Surgeon Dr Sukhjeevan Kakkar, DIO Dr Kiran, Dr Bishav Mohan and others.

Meanwhile, in his weekly Facebook live session on the official page of the District Public Relations Officer, Ludhiana, Deputy Commissioner again exhorted the citizen of the district to embrace the Covid vaccine as it is very much safe and effective. He said that the vaccine reduces the severity of the infectious disease so the people must accept it wholeheartedly to win the war against the invisible enemy.
