Shahpur MLA and Deputy Chief Whip Kewal Pathania on Monday undertook a foot visit to several rain-affected areas of his Assembly constituency, including Naushahra, Baldi, Bodusarna, and Kareeri, to assess the damage caused by recent heavy rains.

Dharamshala, August 13, 2025: Shahpur MLA and Deputy Chief Whip Kewal Pathania on Monday undertook a foot visit to several rain-affected areas of his Assembly constituency, including Naushahra, Baldi, Bodusarna, and Kareeri, to assess the damage caused by recent heavy rains.
While inspecting the damaged bridge between Baldi and Dharamotha, Pathania noted that the collapse had completely cut off Dharamotha village from Baldi. He immediately apprised Chief Minister Sukhwinder Singh Sukhu of the situation via a video call from the site. Responding with urgency, the Chief Minister announced a grant of ₹10 lakh for the bridge’s reconstruction. Villagers expressed gratitude to both the Chief Minister and Pathania for their prompt action.
In Sarna village, where local resident Prem Chand’s concrete house was completely destroyed in the rains, the Shahpur Welfare Society extended financial assistance of ₹11,000. SDM Shahpur Kartar Chand, Executive Engineer (Public Works) Ankaj Sood, Executive Engineer (Water Power) Amit Dogra, Executive Engineer (Electricity) Amit Sharma, Assistant Engineer (Water Power), and officials from various departments accompanied the MLA during his visit.
Meanwhile, Indora MLA Malendra Rajan toured flood-hit areas of Mand Bhogarwan, Mand Bhadpur, and Malkana, meeting villagers and listening to their concerns. Rajan said that continuous heavy rainfall had caused the water level in Pong Dam to rise sharply, necessitating water release and triggering flood-like conditions in low-lying parts of Indora. He confirmed that the administration had shifted affected residents to safer locations.
The MLA reported severe crop losses across several families but noted with relief that there had been no loss of life. He directed officials to conduct immediate loss assessments and prepare detailed reports to ensure timely compensation from the state government.
During Rajan’s visit, SDM Dr. Surendra Thakur, Tehsildar Aman, DSP Sanjeev Yadav, BDO Sudarshan Singh, XEN PWD Deepak Mahajan, SDO PWD Sikandar, SDO Electricity Gurnam, Pong Dam Director Dr. Vishal, and other dignitaries were present.
