MLA & Deputy Commissioner to inaugurate Kila Raipur Rural Olympics on Feb 12

Ludhiana, February 11, 2024: Gill MLA Jeevan Singh Sangowal and Deputy Commissioner Sakshi Sawhney will inaugurate famous Kila Raipur Rural Olympics-2024 on Monday in Kila Raipur village of the district. 

The games will be held from February 12 to 14. Cabinet Minister Anmol Gagan Mann will be chief guest on the concluding day of event. This year, the Rural Olympics are being organised by the Bhagwant Singh Mann-led Punjab government.

On the first day of games, hockey match (boys) will start from 9.30 am followed by hockey match (girls), Kabbadi (girls), 60-m race (under 14,17 girls), 100-m race (men above the age of 60,70), 1500-m race (girls and boys), 400-m race (girls and boys), hockey matches (girls and boys).

On the first day of games, i.e. on February 12, famous Punjabi singer Gurlez Akhtar-Kulwinder Kally will perform from 5 pm onwards, followed by Debi Makhsoospuri on February 13 and Amrit Mann on February 14.

Similarly, eminent personality in the field of culture, Mr Tarsem Chand Kalehri’s team “Punjabi Heritage” will set up an exhibition of Punjab’s rich cultural history will be set up in the ground, artists will perform bhangra and Jhoomar etc on all three days.
Divulging more information, Sawhney said that the Punjab government headed by the Bhagwant Singh Mann was committed to creating sports culture in the state and every effort was being made to revive the glory of the state in the sports. She said that during this three-day mega event, cash prizes worth Rs 30 lakh would be distributed amongst the players.

She said that there was no dearth of skills in Punjab, the only need is to identify and nurture this skill and these games will help to produce more champions. 

Sawhney urged the people to take part in maximum numbers to take the popularity of the games to the new heights.
