Ludhiana, January 18, 2024: With an aim to ensure smooth movement of traffic in the old city areas including Jalandhar Bypass, Salem Tabri main road and railway station road (old GT road), Ludhiana North MLA Madan Lal Bagga conducted a meeting with Municipal Corporation (MC) Commissioner Sandeep Rishi, Commissioner of Police (CP) Kuldeep Singh Chahal and Secretary, Regional Transport Authority (RTA) Randeep Singh Heer among others on Thursday.

During the meeting held at the office of Commissioner of Police, the authorities also deliberated upon streamlining the movement of auto rickshaws and removal of roadside encroachments.

MLA Hardeep Singh Mundian, DCP (Traffic) Varinder Singh Brar, MC Zonal Commissioner Jasdev Singh Sekhon among others were also present in the meeting.

MLA Bagga said that a number of areas witness traffic jams during the peak hours including Jalandhar bypass, Salem Tabri, Chaura Bazar, area near clock tower, railway station road etc. As Jalandhar bypass (old GT road) is one of the entry points to the city, the traffic at that point has to be streamlined.

Similarly, traffic jams are witnessed near the clock tower, railway station etc. Deliberations were also held to streamline the movement of traffic including auto rickshaws in these areas. Directions were also issued to the civic body officials to remove the roadside encroachments and to ensure marking of white lines on roads to ensure safety of commuters during foggy weather conditions.

MLA Bagga further said that due to ongoing construction work of the bridge over Buddha nullah near Chand cinema and the Domoria railway bridge expected to remain closed for three months starting from February, they also discussed traffic diversion plans to ensure smooth movement of traffic. Domoria railway bridge would remain closed due to upgradation works which has to be taken up by the railway department.

MLA Madan Lal Bagga said that the civic body officials have also been directed to expedite the project to construct a road on the other side of the buddha nullah too. This will also help in streamlining the movement of traffic.

Different proposals/plans have been made and these would be implemented in a phased manner to ensure smooth movement of traffic, added MLA Bagga.
