Miyawaki Native Plantation Drive Organized in Samrala

Jalandhar, August 25, 2026: Under the theme "Plant Native, Protect Nature: A Greener Punjab, A Healthier Tomorrow", a plantation drive based on the Miyawaki technique was organized in Samrala today. The initiative was a joint collaboration between the District Administration, SOCH NGO, and VirVanam Foundation.
The drive was led by SDM Samrala Ms. Gursimranjeet Kaur, alongside Project Coordinator Pavneet Singh and Director of SOCH NGO Dr. Balwinder Lekhi. Speaking on the occasion, SDM Gursimranjeet Kaur highlighted the importance of planting native trees to combat climate change and expand local green cover.
Class 11th and 12th students from PM SHRI Government Senior Secondary School, Samrala, along with volunteers, actively participated in planting native saplings using the dense Miyawaki model. The organizers explained that this method ensures rapid growth, requires minimal long-term maintenance, and helps restore the natural biodiversity of the region.
The district administration reiterated its commitment to expanding such eco-friendly green belts across the sub-division in upcoming phases.
