Ministry of Electronics & IT awarded 84 lakhs to IKGPTU for Post Doctoral and Ph.D. fellowships

Jalandhar/Kapurthala, June 20, 2025: Ministry of Electronics & IT (MeitY), Government of India allotted one (01) Post Doctoral fellowships (PDF) and two (02) post doc fellowships for I K Gujral Punjab Technical University (IKGPTU). Under the able guidance of University Vice Chancellor Prof. (Dr.) Susheel Mittal, University had got two (02) Ph. D. fellowships under Visvesvaraya scheme in 2024-25 too. After receiving the sanction letters for above said fellowships from MeitY, Vice Chancellor Prof. (Dr.) Susheel Mittal congratulated the Research & Development (R&D) department for the success of this initiative and asked for collaborative efforts to strengthen the quality of research in the state of Punjab. He appreciated the efforts towards this achievement of Dean (R&D) Prof. Y S Brar, Registrar Dr. Navdeepak Sandhu, Deputy Dean Dr. Rajeev Kumar Bedi and Assistant Registrar R&D Dr. Vivek Talwar, who were also present on this occasion.

Worth to mention that Visvesvaraya PhD scheme has been initiated by Ministry of Electronics & IT (MeitY), Government of India with an objective of enhancing the number of PhDs in the country to compete globally in the knowledge intensive sectors of Electronics System Design and Manufacturing (ESDM) and IT/IT Enabled Services (IT/ITES). Under the scheme, financial support is provided to Full-time & Part-time PhD candidates and Young Faculty who are undertaking research and technology development. Phase-II of Visvesvaraya PhD Scheme for 9 years, was approved by the Government with a budget of Rs. 481.93 Crores in 2021 with an aim to support 1000 Full-Time PhD candidates, 150 Part-Time PhD candidates, 50 Young Faculty Research Fellowships and 225 Post-Doctoral Fellowships.

Dean Prof. (Dr.) Brar informed that one PDF is sanctioned to department of Chemistry/Civil Engineering while one Ph D fellowship is sanctioned to department of Electrical Engineering and one Ph D fellowship to Department of Chemistry. The interested candidates can apply for Ph D fellowships through the website of the University. The selected candidates will get Rupees 38,750/- per month + HRA in first and second year and Rupees 43,750/- plus HRA for 3rd years onwards.
