Distributes prizes in state level essay competition on milk's importance, and exhorts youth to join dairy farming
Ludhiana, Nov 19, 2025: In a significant initiative to safeguard public health and ensure the supply of pure milk, Agriculture and Farmers Welfare, Animal Husbandry, Fisheries, Dairy Development, and Food Processing Minister Gurmeet Singh Khudian on Wednesday flagged off four advanced mobile testing vans dedicated to detecting adulteration in milk and cattle feed.
Operated by the Dairy Development Department, these vans will visit urban and rural areas throughout the state, allowing citizens to give samples of their milk and cattle feed for instant, on-the-spot testing completely free of cost. The Minister announced that four additional vans will be deployed across districts in the near future to further expand the reach of this citizen-centric service.
Khudian appealed to the people of Punjab to participate enthusiastically by bringing samples in large numbers whenever the vans visit their areas. He emphasized that collective vigilance through regular testing of everyday milk consumption is the most effective way to eradicate the menace of adulteration, ensuring healthier lives for families across the state.
Later, Khudian also distributed prizes to outstanding student participants in a state level essay writing competition organized by the Dairy Development Department on the theme "Milk and Its Importance in Daily Life." Over 400 students from Classes 11 and 12, representing 17 districts, showcased their talent, with 47 emerging as winners across categories. First-place winners received a cash prize of Rs 3,000 along with a certificate and memento, while second and third-place recipients were awarded Rs 2,000 and Rs 1,000 respectively, accompanied by certificates and mementos.
Encouraging the young participants, the Minister urged them to visit Punjab Agricultural University (PAU) in Ludhiana and Guru Angad Dev Veterinary and Animal Sciences University (GADVASU) to gain first hand exposure to cutting-edge dairy science and research. He stressed that courses offered at these prestigious institutions boast exceptional employability prospects, inspiring the next generation to contribute meaningfully to the dairy and animal husbandry sectors.
The Minister also highlighted the vast opportunities in Punjab's thriving dairy sector, calling upon the youth to embrace dairy farming as a viable and prosperous career path. Describing the sector as a powerhouse of employment generation, nutritional security, and rural economic growth, he noted that Punjab continues to be one of the leading milk-producing states in the country. With growing demand for pure and high-quality milk, the dairy industry holds tremendous potential to elevate rural prosperity to unprecedented levels, making it an urgent priority in today's times.
