Minister charge sheets one doctor and issues show cause notice to another at Ludhiana civil hospital
Ludhiana, November 11, 2014: Tightening the noose on doctors showing laxity while on duty, the Health and Family Welfare Minister Surjit Kumar Jayani today charge sheeted Dr.Alka Mittal, Gynecologist posted in Civil Hospital Ludhiana and issued a show cause notice to Dr. Raj Kumar Karkara, Senior Medical Officer on charges of sheer negligence and carelessness while discharging their duties. Conveying a stern and exemplary message to the doctors to be honest towards their duties, the Minister conveyed a message of zero tolerance for the insolent behavior of the doctors who were into such a noble profession.  
In a statement issued here today, the Minister said that he reached Ludhiana Civil Hospital this afternoon after receiving a call on his mobile, while coming back from his constituency to Chandigarh. Giving details of the inattentive attitude and frequent absenteeism of the doctors he found that the complaint was based on absolute facts. Dr. Alka Mittal, a Gynecologist posted in Civil Hospital Ludhiana was found absent without informing the seniors. She was supposed to attend the OPD today which was being handled by some junior doctor. The Minister immediately asked the officers of the department to charge sheet the doctor. Jayani took serious note of the carelessness on the part of SMO, Dr. Karkara for failing to take any punitive action against the doctors posted in Civil Hospital who were prescribing medicines to the patients even though enough stock was lying within the government hospital. A show cause notice was issued to Dr. Karkara. The Minister said that Dr. Karkara ignored the directive of the state government to provide the medicines to the patients in the hospitals.
Appreciating the gesture of the members of society coming forward to lodge their complaints against negligent public servants, Jayani assured to keep the anonymity of the complainants  to protect them and said that he would always be available to the public on mobile so that on their complaint action could be taken against the erring doctors. He reiterated strong resolve of the Punjab government to provide uninterrupted quality health care facilities to the people.
