`Meri Life, Mera Swachh Shehar’ campaign:  MLA Kulwant Singh Sidhu kick starts cleanliness drive with focus on cleaning road gullies ahead of monsoon season 

Ludhiana, May 30, 2023: With focus on cleaning road gullies ahead of monsoon season, Atam Nagar MLA Kulwant Singh Sidhu launched a cleanliness drive on Gill road on Tuesday. The drive has been launched under the 'Meri Life, Mera Swachh Shehar' campaign. 

MLA Sidhu himself wielded the broom, covered around 1 km stretch of the road on foot and personally checked the process to clean the road gullies. Joint Commissioner of Municipal Corporation (MC) Kulpreet Singh among other civic body officials accompanied MLA Sidhu during the drive.

The legislator stated that strict directions have been issued to the civic body officials and staff that preparations should be done to avoid waterlogging during the monsoon season in advance.

The civic body officials have also been asked to replace the broken covers of road gullies to avoid accidents during the monsoon season.

MLA Sidhu stated that the drive will continue in the coming days and other areas of the constituency will also be covered under the drive. Regular field inspections will be done and strict departmental action will be taken against the officials, if any anomalies are found especially in the process to clean the road gullies.

MLA Sidhu also appealed to the residents to stop the use of banned plastic carry bags and single use plastic items. He stated that plastic carry bags and other single use plastic, when dumped in open, choke the drain/sewer lines. Due to this, waterlogging is witnessed in the respective area during the rainy season.

Earlier on Monday, MC Commissioner Dr Shena Aggarwal had also conducted a meeting with the zonal commissioners of all the four zones of MC regarding monsoon preparations. Strict directions have been issued to the officials to ensure cleaning of road gullies, proper working of pumping stations/disposal points, desilting of buddha nullah among others steps which need to be taken to avoid waterlogging during the rainy season.
