Mental Health Training Gets a Major Push: UHSR-Gurugram University Sign MoU

Rohtak, September 3, 2026: Psychology students of Gurugram University will now get hands-on clinical training at PGIMS Rohtak, following an MoU signed between Pandit Bhagwat Dayal Sharma University of Health Sciences (UHSR), Rohtak, and Gurugram University.

               The MoU aims to strengthen academic collaboration, clinical training and research in mental health. The initiative, spearheaded by UHSR Vice-Chancellor Dr H.K. Aggarwal, will provide Gurugram University students direct exposure to patients and clinical practices at PGIMS, eliminating the need to travel to other states for training.

               Speaking at the MoU signing ceremony, Dr Aggarwal said the partnership would help strengthen mental healthcare in Haryana amid rising cases of stress, depression, substance abuse and other mental health disorders.

               Students will get exposure to cases involving schizophrenia, bipolar disorder, depression, childhood mental health issues and substance-use disorders at the PGIMS Department of Psychiatry and the State Institute of Mental Health.

               Gurugram University Vice-Chancellor Prof. Sanjay Kaushik said clinical exposure at a major medical institute like PGIMS would significantly enhance students’ practical skills and professional readiness.

               UHSR Registrar Dr. Roop Singh said that under the MoU, GU students enrolled in four RCI-recognised programmes—MA Clinical Psychology, BSc Clinical Psychology (Hons), Professional Diploma in Clinical Psychology and MSc Psychology—will receive training postings at PGIMS.

               PGIMS Director Dr S.K. Singhal said experienced psychiatrists and clinical psychologists would mentor the students, providing practical training in psychological assessment, diagnostic procedures and case-history taking.

               The two universities also plan to undertake joint research projects and organise academic conferences in the field of mental health.

               Dean, Faculty of Social Sciences and Education, Gurugram University, Prof. Gayatri Raina, said the initiative would give students first-hand exposure to psychiatric and clinical psychology cases while improving their practical competence and employment prospects.

               The ceremony was attended by UHSR Dean Academic Affairs Dr M.G. Vashishth, Dean Dr Ashok Chauhan, Medical Superintendent Dr Kundan Mittal and PGIDS Principal Dr Manu Rathi.
