Memorandum Submitted to DC Regarding Maintenance of Dr. B.R. Ambedkar’s Statue

Ludhiana, September 29, 2026: A delegation of Dr. Ambedkar Ekta Mission Punjab today submitted a memorandum to Ludhiana Deputy Commissioner Himanshu Jain, putting forward several suggestions regarding the maintenance and security of the statue of Constitution-maker Dr. B.R. Ambedkar at Jalandhar Bypass Chowk, Ludhiana.
It is pertinent to mention that recently, a miscreant allegedly committed an act of disrespect towards the statue of Babasaheb Ambedkar, which has caused strong resentment among members of the Dalit community.
The delegation, led by Pawan Dewan, former General Secretary of Punjab Congress and former Chairman of the Punjab Large Industrial Development Board, and Deepak Hans, President of the organisation, submitted the memorandum to the Deputy Commissioner.
The delegation suggested that HD CCTV cameras be installed around the statue, solar lights be provided, the height of the protective grills be increased, and the unipole located inside the park be removed. It also suggested that the Municipal Corporation install a notice prohibiting the placement of boards, banners, posters, flags and other publicity material on the grills around the chowk. Other suggestions included assigning a permanent gardener to ensure the proper maintenance and beautification of the park and installing bulletproof glass protection around the statue of Babasaheb Ambedkar.
The delegation stated that these suggestions were made with the objective of ensuring the security, dignity and proper maintenance of the statue of Babasaheb Ambedkar. After listening carefully to the suggestions, Deputy Commissioner Himanshu Jain assured the delegation that the administration would take necessary action and that the issues would be addressed at the earliest.
Members of the delegation included Inderjit Kapoor, Netaji Sondhi, Sheetal Adivanshi, Anil Ghai, Ishwar Kalyan, Sunny Kalu and Amar.
