Meeting with Traders/Shopkeepers Associations to Enhance GST Revenue by the Department of Excise & Taxation

Ludhiana, September 10, 2025: A meeting was held with representatives of Knitwear Club, Ludhiana, Bahadurke Textiles and Knitwear Association, Ludhiana (BKTK) and Ludhiana Readymade Garments Manufacturer’s Association (LRGMA), Ludhiana to sensitize them about the new GST rates being implemented in this month as per the GST reforms announced by the GST council. These reforms have reduced tax rates in many sectors including yarn and allied items. The meeting aimed to apprise the associations of the impending changes in GST rates and to emphasize the importance of compliance and contribution to government revenue enhancement.
Key Highlights of the Meeting:
- GST Rate Cuts Implementation: Randhir Kaur, DCST, Ludhiana Division Ludhiana briefed the associations about the upcoming GST rate reductions, underscoring the government's intent to boost economic activity and ease compliance burdens.
- Revenue Enhancement: Association members were urged to play a proactive role in enhancing government revenue through proper tax compliance and adherence to GST regulations.
- Zero Tolerance to Tax Evasion: The Deputy Commissioner stressed that there will be no tolerance for tax evasion, emphasizing the need for transparency and honesty in tax matters.
- Collaboration for Smooth Transition: The meeting highlighted the importance of collaboration between the GST authorities and industry stakeholders for a seamless transition to the new GST rate structure.
- Compliance and Awareness: Associations were encouraged to disseminate information about GST reforms and compliance requirements to their members, fostering awareness and adherence to tax laws.
The meeting was a significant step towards enhancing GST revenue and compliance. Shinee Singh, ACST, Ludhiana-3, Sh. Bhupinder Singh and Harpreet Singh both STOs and Hardeep Singh Ahuja, ASTO were present in the meeting. The representatives included Darshan Dawar, Subhash Saini, Sandeep Behl, A.S.Dua, Darshan Lal Gaba and Brijmohan Timma.
The meeting concluded with a mutual understanding on the need for concerted efforts towards GST compliance and revenue growth, paving the way for a collaborative approach in implementing the GST reforms in the hosiery and textile sector.
“Similar meetings shall be held with the associations of other sectors as well in the upcoming days”, stated Hardeep Singh Ahuja, Nodal Officer.
