Mayor Inderjit Kaur launches major solid waste awareness campaign 'My waste, My responsibility' from BCM Arya Model school
Live demonstrations, Nukkad Natak among other awareness activities held to promote Reduce, Reuse and Recycle (RRR) waste

'Swachhta Champions' nominated to lead way and spread awareness among others at large; Awareness campaigns to be held in various schools of city under the campaign
Ludhiana, October 14, 2025: Aiming to inculcate solid waste management practices at root level of the society, Mayor Principal Inderjit Kaur launched the major solid waste management awareness campaign 'My Waste, My responsibility' from BCM Arya Model Senior Secondary School, Shastri Nagar on Tuesday.
Accompanied by Senior Deputy Mayor Rakesh Prashar, Zonal Commissioner Jasdev Singh Sekhon, councillor Mehak Gurkaran Tinna and councillor Kapil Sonu, Mayor Inderjit Kaur stated that under this campaign, awareness drives/activities would be conducted in various other schools of the city as they aim to bring a positive change in the society.
School President, Rakesh Jain; Vice President, Vinod Sehgal; Honorary Secretary, Capt VK Sayal; Treasurer Sudhir Sayal; Director Arya Samaj Group of Schools Dr Paramjit Kaur; Principal Dr Anuja Kaushal; Environment Manager Vipra Kale and HR Manager Raju Kaushal also participated in the event and appreciated Mayor Principal Inderjit Kaur for the initiative to spread awareness among the youth.
Live demonstrations were also given by the team from Council on Energy, Environment and Water (CEEW) to reduce, reuse and recycle waste. The students from BCM Arya Model school performed a Nukkad Natak to discourage the use of plastic which is affecting the society and human health in different ways.
During the awareness campaign, a number of students were also honoured as 'Swachhta Champions' to lead the way and spread the word regarding solid waste management at large.
The students were apprised of different solid waste management techniques like segregation of dry and wet waste, home composting, recycling waste etc. An exhibition was also organised for encouraging reuse of waste materials.
The participants also took a pledge to keep the surroundings clean and do their bit by managing their waste on their own. The officials stated working under the guidance of mayor Inderjit Kaur, this initiative has been taken under the 'Swachhta Hi Seva' campaign.
Encouraging the students to reduce, reuse and recycle waste at their respective houses, Mayor Inderjit Kaur stated that students/youth are major changemakers in the society. She stated that the students should take the word to their homes and spread awareness among their parents and neighbourhood regarding solid waste management.
Mayor Inderjit Kaur further stated that a number of NGOs working in the sector are also being involved to spread the word at large. This campaign will continue and awareness drives would be held in various schools of the city.
Speaking of the theme of the initiative 'My waste, my responsibility', Mayor Inderjit Kaur stated that it is time that residents should own the responsibility and step forward for bringing a positive change in the society.
Mayor Inderjit Kaur stated that working under the guidance of Chief Minister (CM) Bhagwant Singh Mann, the civic body is making regular efforts to improve solid waste management in the city. But this goal cannot be achieved without active participation of the residents.
