Mayor Balkar Singh Sandhu hits out at false allegations of corruption by a section of contractors

Ludhiana, August 25, 2021: Mayor Balkar Singh Sandhu took on a particular section of Hot mix plants contractors for making false, unsubstantiated and frivolous allegations of corruption against Municipal Corporation Ludhiana (MCL). 

Accompanied by Senior Deputy Mayor Sham Sunder Malhotra, MC Commissioner Pardeep Kumar Sabharwal, Mayor said that he would not bow down to blackmailing tactics of the certain contractors and asked that if anyone has a single evidence against any MC official, he would take severest of severe action. 

Sandhu added that these contractors led by a person who has close ties with the opposition party, has already been blacklisted by MCL and wants to malign the image of the civic body for his vested interests by his false allegations. 

On the boycott call of road construction works (bitumen based) by contractors, he said in case they do not participate in the tendering process, MC will recall the tenders of development works  again but with RMC technique. 

On 6 per cent lesser amount of the estimate prepared by the MC, Mayor stated that these contractors had also worked on 5 percent lesser amount when MCL was headed by Akali government in 2017.

Mayor also asked the MC Commissioner to conduct a probe how a blacklisted contractor received the tenders and ordered an inquiry how a site of dispensary turned into a commercial building. 

Mayor Balkar Singh Sandhu told that Ludhiana has recorded path-breaking development in the city in last four years of the state government.

He said that special emphasis has been laid on urban infrastructure development and complete transparency has been maintained in all these works.
