Kolkata, Oct 21 (IANS) Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) national president J.P. Nadda on Saturday visited some Durga Puja pandals here on the occasion of 'Maha Saptami' -- the first day of four-day Durga Puja.

"I pray to Goddess Durga to give us strength so that we can continue with our fight to end the evils of family- dominated politics, corruption and infiltration in the country. May Maa Durga give us the strength to end those demonic powers that harm the society," Nadda said after visiting a Puja pandal.

Nadda arrived here on Saturday morning. He was greeted at the airport by top leaders of the West Bengal unit of the BJP, including the Leader of the Opposition in West Bengal Assembly Suvendu Adhikari, and state BJP president Sukanta Majumdar.

He is likely to return to Delhi on Saturday night.

He came to the city to visit some of the popular community Puja pandals, whose organising committees are controlled by the West Bengal unit BJP leaders.

Recently, Union Home Minister Amit Shah was also in Kolkata to inaugurate one of the popular Puja pandals in Kolkata, whose theme this year is Ram Mandir at Ayodhya in Uttar Pradesh.

"This is not the occasion for making political statements. So, I will not do that now. But I will be frequenting the state more, making political statements and ensuring that there is change in the state," Shah had then said.
