Max Hospital organises walkathon and marathon to spread awareness on ‘Stroke Management’

Mohali, October 31, 2021: Leading healthcare provider Max Super Speciality Hospital, Mohali in association with the Gastroenterology and Liver Forum Chandigarh organised the walkathon and marathon at Sukhna Lake today to create awareness about stroke, its symptoms and why early medical intervention is important to minimize brain damage.

The 1 km walkathon and 3 km and 6 km marathons, organized to mark the World Stroke Day, witnessed participation from the general public as well Max Hospital’s doctors, paramedical and administrative staff. The participants carried placards and banners to highlight the awareness about stroke management.

In the event, senior neurologists from Max Hospital, Mohali talked about stroke management. They also educated the participants about early signs of stroke and the need to reach a fully equipped multi-specialty hospital within the first few hours.

“Treating such patients is a team effort and we have a complete stroke unit to treat such patients. A person who suffers from a stroke has 3 hours for treatment. Strokes occur due to the problems with blood supply to the brain: either the blood supply is blocked, or a blood vessel within the brain ruptures, causing brain tissue to die. A stroke is a medical emergency, and treatment must be sought as quickly as possible,” said Dr Deepak Gupta, Associate Director Neurology & Head-Stroke program, Max Super Speciality Hospital, Mohali.

”Of all neurological diseases, stroke is the most preventable one. Many of the established risk factors for stroke, including hypertension, high cholesterol, diabetes, heart disease and smoking can be prevented either through healthier lifestyle choices or by medication.” informed neurologists.

It is important to create awareness and general public to know about the FAST (Facial asymmetry, Arm weakness, Speech problem and T for time) warning signs of stroke. Awareness can help recognise symptoms of stroke and why reaching a super speciality hospital is essential. One must call ‘Emergency 77107 77107 Call’and seek help from experts. Initiating emergency response is critical in minimising brain damage when someone has suffered from a stroke, they pointed out.

Mr.Vivan Gill, VP and Regional Head Operations at Max Healthcare said,” We at Max Mohali have a fully equipped comprehensive stroke centre which offers all kinds of facilities to manage stroke patients.”
