Max Hospital, Bhatinda spreads awareness on World Asthma Day

Bathinda: On this World Asthma Day, Max Super Speciality Hospital, Bhatinda is raising awareness about the condition by highlighting its symptoms, causes, the importance of early diagnosis, and available treatment options. Under this campaign, Max is organising a series of health talks discussing asthma screening camps, and community education sessions, especially focusing on how the harvesting season can aggravate respiratory complications and trigger more frequent asthmatic attacks. These initiatives aim to equip individuals with the knowledge needed to manage asthma more effectively during vulnerable periods.

Talking about the awareness drive, Dr. Manan Bedi, pulmonologist at Max Bathinda said,”Asthma is a chronic respiratory disease that affects both children and adults. While living with asthma can be challenging, it is a manageable condition if identified early and treated correctly. Millions of people suffer due to a lack of awareness or delayed diagnosis. By recognizing triggers and taking preventive steps, we can significantly reduce the burden of this disease.”

While speaking about causes, common triggers and preventive measures of asthma, Dr Bedia said that environmental pollution, dust, pollen, tobacco smoke—including passive smoking—respiratory infections, cold air, physical exertion, and occupational exposure - chemicals or fumes are major contributors to asthma. However, it can be effectively managed by following a doctor-prescribed asthma action plan, using inhalers and medications properly and consistently, undergoing routine check-ups and lung function tests and staying physically active within limits, he informed.

Dr. Bedi advised not to ignore early symptoms such as persistent coughing, wheezing, or shortness of breath & chest tightness. Timely diagnosis and regular follow-ups are key to leading a normal, healthy life even with asthma, he maintained.
