Chandigarh, November 14, 2025: Manu Gandas of Gurugram staged a remarkable comeback despite a mediocre final round (1-over 73) to win a thrilling three-player playoff at the Trident Open 2025. The inaugural edition, with a prize money of ₹1 crore, was held at the Chandigarh Golf Club.
The tournament is supported by title sponsor Trident Group. Trident Group is an Indian business conglomerate and global player, led by the dynamic Mr. Rajinder Gupta, Member of Parliament (Rajya Sabha) and Chairman. Headquartered in Ludhiana, Punjab, Trident is one of the largest players in home textiles in India and abroad.
Manu (66-73-69-73), local star and PGTI Order of Merit leader Yuvraj Sandhu (72-69-70-70), and 21-year-old debutant Shubham Jaglan (71-69-71-70) were tied at seven-under 281 after 72 holes. Manu made a winning comeback after a year and 10 months by overcoming the playoff.
This ninth professional win earned Manu ₹1.5 lacs and moved him from 14th to seventh on the PGTI Order of Merit. 17-year-old emerging player Manoj S. was leading on the third day. He shot a final round 75 to finish tied for fourth with Shaurya Bhattacharya (71) at six-under 282, missing out on a record.
In the final round, Manu took the lead with a birdie after a brilliant chip on the second hole, but a double-bogey on the 16th hole cost him a setback. Despite this, he maintained his composure and sank a superb drive and a four-foot par putt in the playoff to win the title.
After the win, Manu said, "My game has been improving lately, and victory was just a matter of time. The double-bogey on the 16th hole was disappointing, but I focused on the next shots. This win is special for me because I became a father two months ago, and my son was present at the tournament for the first time."
Shubham Jaglan impressed by finishing joint runner-up in his first PGTI event. Meanwhile, Chandigarh golfer and PGTI Order of Merit leader Yuvraj Sandhu narrowly missed out on the title. His performance on his home course took his season earnings past ₹1 crore.
