Bengaluru, March 6, 2022: Kidney disease is a silent killer and the need of the hour is to create awareness about kidney health to many more people across the country. As a leading healthcare provider in Bangalore, Manipal Hospitals attempts to create awareness among people and ensures to aid Kidney care for all with its enhanced accessibility across Bangalore. To mark its milestone in kidney care and highlight the need for prevention of kidney diseases, Manipal Hospitals organised a unique kidney-shaped cyclothon today.

Dr.  H. Sudarshan Ballal, Chairman, Manipal Hospitals flagged off the cyclothon today at 7 am, Old Airport Road. The initiative was conducted across 10 centres of Manipal Hospitals in Bengaluru, including Old Airport Road, Millers Road, Hebbal, Yeshwantpur, Malleshwaram, Jayanagar, Sarjapur Road, Varthur Road, and Whitefield. The city witnessed a ride like never before with professional cyclists, doctors, and paramedical staff. Through this initiative, Manipal Hospitals endeavoured to highlight the need for everyone to work towards a healthier lifestyle – cycling is one good way of achieving this goal.

Over the last four years, the hospital has conducted 507 kidney transplants, 342 dialysis cases per day, 9460 dialysis cases per month and continues to treat 957 patients who are currently undergoing dialysis. Manipal Hospitals is the first unit to successfully undertake cadaver transplantation, perform robotic renal transplantation, conduct single-incision donor nephrectomy (umbilical), laparoscopic donor nephrectomy (Minimally Invasive Surgery) and Trans Vaginal Donor Nephrectomy in Karnataka.
