Ludhiana, August 1, 2019: LMA President Kamal Wadhera underscored the need for multifaceted leaders who could act on a broad vision, introduce change, engage the workforce, and sustain competitive advantage through effective leadership practices in the turbulent times.
With a view to facilitate the development of the right attitude and skill sets that are expected of New Age Leaders, LMA organized a session on Leadership, mentored by Management Guru R.Gopalkrishnan, former Director Tata Sons and also Hindustan Unilever.
On this occasion, a new book Doodles on Leadership authored by Gopalkrishnan was also released. Gopalkrishnan underscored the need for strong leaders at each level who excel in leading others, with ideas and driving initiatives to meet the challenges of the competitive marketplace for long-term success. He maintained that Leaders are continually challenged to achieve high expectations and perform beyond their current capabilities. He also reflected on the path of a Leaders journey advising that as one goes up the ladder, the perspectives change, and so should the role and style of a Leader.
Gopalakrishnan advised the business leaders to strike a delicate balance between the decision inputs available through Data Analytics or Artificial Intelligence and their intuition as a result of their native intelligence. He viewed leadership as a continuum between transactional leadership at the junior levels to the societal role as a leader in a strategic position. He also advised the leaders to understand Mahatma Gandhis Model of Trusteeship for bringing lasting change to society.
Gopalakrishnan exhorted the managers to emulate a mason, who builds a home for others, with a very high level of commitment, even though he will never be able to live in it, as an organization and its leaders should consider their role to be that of a change agent or a catalyst who facilitates the transformation of an economy from its current state to the desired state. He also asked the leaders to resist from centralizing or usurping power, as the existence and exercise of absolute power was debilitating for a leader both physically and morally. He concluded by sharing the Magic Mantra of Success, i.e., that an Individual is rewarded not for his Ideas, but for his execution and delivery of ideas.
Dr.Sandip Kapur Sr. Vice President LMA proposed the Vote of Thanks to the celebrated Author and Guru, with the hope that Gopalakrishnan would keep mentoring LMA Members on an ongoing basis. He lauded India’s’ diversity by maintaining that as our culture is a mélange, it prepares us for excellence and breakthrough results.
Gopalkrishnan was felicitated by LMA Senior Vice President S.S.Bhogal, Dr SB.Singh and Dr. Prem Kumar.
