In a decisive move against organised crime, the Malerkotla Police successfully apprehended two individuals involved in a series of vehicle thefts. FIR no 14, dated 29/01/24, under Section 379 IPC, was registered, leading to the swift arrest of the accused.

Malerkotla, 31 January 2024: In a decisive move against organised crime, the Malerkotla Police successfully apprehended two individuals involved in a series of vehicle thefts. FIR no 14, dated 29/01/24, under Section 379 IPC, was registered, leading to the swift arrest of the accused.


The accused have been identified as Mohd. Riaz @ Babla (21), son of Mohd. Ishfaq, resident of Saffi Basti, Matoyi Road, Malerkotla and Naseem (19), son of Shamshad, resident of Mohalla Malerkotla.


Divulging more details to press media, the senior superintendent of police, Harkamal Preet Singh Khakh said that Acting on a tip-off, the police team led by SHO Sahib Singh  of Malerkotla Police launched a raid that led to the dramatic arrest of the two alleged vehicle thieves from a hideout in the city.


The accused confessed to being part of a vehicle theft ring operating in the region. Further investigation revealed that the gang targeted parked two-wheelers in isolated areas and expertly made away with them using duplicate keys and other techniques.


The arrested accused will be produced in the local court and their remand will be taken to further investigation the matter and  to identify and nab other gang members.


"This is a stern warning to criminal elements that unlawful activities will simply not be tolerated in Malerkotla anymore. Our police force is alert 24x7 and will continue to work tirelessly to maintain law and order in the city," SSP Khakh  said.


Citizens have been urged to come forward and share information on vehicle thefts and other crimes with Malerkotla Police in weeding out crime from the city.
