Malerkotla Police hosts school students to give insight into police functioning

Malerkotla, December 23, 2023: In a great step towards community connection, following CM Bhagwant Singh Maan's vision and under DGP Punjab Gaurav Yadav IPS's direction, Malerkotla Police organized an educational tour for 100 students from Government Senior Secondary Smart School, Bhogiwal. This unique initiative offered young minds a firsthand look at how the police operate, going beyond just enforcing laws.

Around 100 students accompanied by teachers arrived at Police Station City 1 in the morning. The Station House Officer city Malerkotla delivered a presentation explaining critical helpline    numbers like 112, Cyber Crime awareness and highlighted various citizen-centric services like Saanjh that foster police-public partnerships. Students also got the opportunity to see police operations first-hand and interact with beat officers.

Later, a batch of students met the Deputy Superintendent of Police headquarters at his office. The DSP spoke to them about career opportunities in the police and inspired them to study hard. He also urged them to stay away from drugs and negative influences.

At the senior Superintendent of Police's office, one of the students got opportunity to become honorary SSP for the day. This creative gesture was aimed at boosting the students' confidence and encouraging them to dream big. Young student Komal Sharma got the opportunity to sit on the chair of SSP.

Besides learning about police functioning, we mainly wanted to build a positive rapport with these young minds. We were able to spread awareness that the police force is an approachable public service that is integral to the local community.

This is the first time such an outreach program was organised by the Malerkotla Police. Seeing the students' enthusiastic response, we plan to make it a regular event.
