Malerkotla Police cracks down on vehicle thieves; 3 arrested, 05 stolen bikes recovered

In continuation of its drive against vehicle theft and anti-social elements, the Malerkotla Police (PS City 2 MLK) has apprehended three persons and recovered 05 stolen motorcycles.

Malerkotla, January 13, 2024: In continuation of its drive against vehicle theft and anti-social elements, the Malerkotla Police (PS City 2 MLK) has apprehended three persons and recovered 05 stolen motorcycles.

                The accused have been identified as Jaspreet Singh,  Mohammad Haneef, and Shahid all residents of Malerkotla. They were found in possession of the stolen vehicles during routine checking of vehicles at a naka near Chotti Haibowal village.

                 The recovered motorcycles comprise 05 Splendor bikes, collectively worth over Rs 4.5 lakhs. The unique engine and chassis numbers of the vehicles were found to be tampered with, confirming that they were stolen property.

                  Preliminary investigations have revealed that the accused are part of a larger inter-district vehicle lifting gang. They would steal vehicles from Ludhiana, Khanna, Sangrur and other adjoining districts before bringing them to Malerkotla for disposing them off.

                The matter is being investigated further and more arrests are expected soon. The police have registered a case under sections 379 and 411 of the IPC at police station city 2 Malerkotla.

              This is the second major breakthrough by Malerkotla Police this month against vehicle thieves involved in inter-district operations. Earlier, the police had busted a 12 member gang and recovered 14 stolen two-wheelers along with 07 Mobile phones.

             Commenting on the arrests, Senior Superintendent of Police Malerkotla, Harkamal Preet Singh Khakh said, “This is a significant achievement by the Malerkotla police against organised vehicle theft gangs. Strict action will be taken against those indulging in crime. I applaud the investigating team for their proactive work and urge citizens to continue cooperating with the police.”


              SSP Khakh reiterated that the Malerkotla police will continue to work vigorously towards ensuring safety and security of the residents of Malerkotla.
